CLASS TITLE: Assistant Principal, Middle/High School CLASS DEFINITION: Non-union, 12-month position, Exempt MISSION & VISION of TIMES2 Academy: The mission of TIMES Academy is to develop intellectually curious and capable young people who are selfless contributors to both local and global communities, and who aspire to be ethical and compassionate leaders. SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The assistant principal is responsible for supporting the principals with administering and supervising the total school program by establishing high expectations student achievement; building a positive school climate that supports the whole student; leveraging research and data to drive initiatives and instruction; and building and developing a high-performing staff and leadership team to achieve the school's vision and goals. The assistant principal will support the principals in building collaborative partnerships with parents, community members, consultants, as well as, other internal/external resources and stakeholders to implement educational programs, capital improvements, systems reform, tools and other resources to accelerate student achievement. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The assistant principal works under the general supervision of a superior with latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgement; work is reviewed upon completion through conferences and reports for conformance to established policies, objectives, rules and regulations. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Plans, coordinates, organizes, supervises and evaluates the work of an instructional, professional, technical, and clerical staff. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: Under the direction of the building principals, the assistant principal will:

  • Co-facilitate curricular development and implementation with grade-level and department teams; monitors, articulates, and evaluates program process and outcomes to guarantee quality education.
  • Promote the establishment of a productive environment for all staff and students in order to promote self-actualization, achievement, teamwork, affiliation, and a humanistic, encouraging interactive climate for learning.
  • Work with Principal and Faculty Designees to recruit, screen, recommend for hire, orient, train, and assign the schools certified and non-certified staff.
  • Support activities of the school's professional staff in the performance of their duties to ensure a high-quality elementary program.
  • Work cooperatively with Special Education personnel. Chairs referral, eligibility and IEP meetings.
  • Participate on the Instructional Leadership Team toward school improvement and assist in the development of a yearly improvement plan.
  • Collaborate in the appraisal, evaluation, and counseling of the school's certified and non-certified staff to translate the school's education philosophy, goals, and objectives into action terms that directly benefit the student.
  • Participate in the scheduling and evaluation of personnel assigned to the school to support the total program.
  • Remain current regarding changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field to ensure quality leadership.
  • Co-develop and maintain a program of community relations to encourage community participation in the school.
  • As a member of the school Crisis Team assist with planning and supervision of safety emergency procedures for the school to ensure the well-being of students and faculty.
  • Prepares such reports as may be required to keep the Principal and Board of Directors informed.
  • Develop and coordinate a system of student supports for maintaining appropriate student conduct throughout the building to provide an orderly environment conducive to learning.
  • Promote effective communication between the school and community to create positive support, understanding, and participation for continued school improvement.
  • Promote opportunities for self-actualization by creating a climate in which staff is encouraged to gain enjoyment from their work, develop their potential and take on new and interesting activities.
  • As a member of the Administrative Team, assume responsibility for administration, supervision, and evaluation of certified faculty and support personnel as assigned.
  • Coordinate yearly state and local assessment programs for the school.
  • Collaborate with administration and faculty in the utilization of assessment results to help improve student achievement.
Job Requirements
  • At least 5 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
  • Master degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
