Location: Albany, NY Category: Professional Job Type: Full-time Posted On: Thu Apr 16 2026 Job Description: The Assistant Apartment Coordinator (AAC) is responsible for assisting in the operations of an apartment complex consisting of approximately 225 - 1,200 residents. The AAC actively supports the Department's mission by making the apartment complex an inviting, intellectual, and inclusive community. The AAC supports all facets of the apartment complex's housing including community development programming, staff development, administrative responsibilities, adjudicating violations of the Community Rights and Responsibilities, and providing front-end office support. The AAC supervises work-study students. The AAC serves in a weekly on-duty rotation and the departmental recess duty rotation. This is a live-in position and the incumbent must reside in their assigned on-campus apartment designated by the Department of Residential Life. This is a twelve-month calendar year position. Primary Responsibilities:
Support the Apartment Complex front-end operations within University Apartments.
Serve on call and on duty on a weekly basis to respond to all emergencies, mental health, and enforce University policies. Live-in professional staff responsible for all emergencies.
Support staff development, programming, and administrative functions of the apartment complex or University Apartments.
Student conduct adjudication, fitness center management, summer operations support, and/or conference room reservation management.
Support key departmental functions including opening, closing, staff hiring and training, housing selection, attending designated apartment complex or departmental events.
If this position is a supervisory role, add the following: Lead and manage direct reports/team providing guidance, support, and performance feedback to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to the University's mission. Lead employees for maximum performance and dedication, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Complete performance management feedback and goals timely and per requirements, offering constructive feedback and developing improvement plans.
Attend University Apartments, department, divisional, and/or university meetings, events, and trainings.
Attend and represent Residential Life at enrollment-focused events, which may occur on nights and weekends.
Other reasonable duties as assigned.
Functional and Supervisory Relationships:
Reports to Apartment Coordinator.
Supervises the following positions: Work Study student staff.
May supervise other student employees as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Ability to live in the provided on-campus apartment for the duration of employment.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in college or university residential life.
Working Environment:
The working environment is a blend of a typical office environment, residence halls, apartments residential or program spaces, and outdoor campus locations. Incident response may include policy violations, mental health, facilities emergencies, or other time-sensitive matters that impact the physical demand, mental demands, or working environment.
The working environment for this role is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring a blend of office-based tasks, residence hall and apartments response, team collaboration, and occasional campus-wide engagement. The work setting includes both administrative office spaces, residential or program locations for training, staff supervision, and event execution. Given the nature of Residential Life, there is often a need for flexibility and adaptability, as responsibilities shift throughout the academic year, with peak periods during residence hall openings and closing, specialty area key time periods, duty, key administrative operations, and during unexpected emergency response. Working evenings and weekends is part of the working environment as a live-in professional.
Physically, the role may involve occasional standing or walking for events, meetings, and campus programs, with periods of office-based tasks that require extended sitting and computer use. The physical demands are moderate and include moving between various office spaces, residential areas, and campus event venues. At times, it is necessary to carry items to setup events/operations, pack and move students' belongings, or on an as-needed basis. This also includes regularly walking and using stairs to conduct rounds of residence halls and respond to incidents indoors and outdoors.
Mentally, the role is dynamic and fast-paced, demanding, and requires multitasking, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making. The role also involves significant interpersonal interaction, including training, supervising staff, difficult conversations, customer service, and policy enforcement. It also includes problem solving and decision making during emergency response to incidents, which demands strong communication, emotional intelligence, and conflict-resolution skills. The ability to work under pressure, handle emergencies, and respond to unforeseen challenges is essential.
