Role Overview Speechify is hiring a mid‑level Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure & Acquisition in Stony Brook, NY. This full‑time role is part of our AI team and focuses on data collection to support model training operations.
Job Description The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning. Over 50 million people use Speechify’s text‑to‑speech products to turn PDFs, books, web articles, and more into audio. We are building a high‑quality, petabyte‑scale dataset infrastructure to power next‑generation models.
What You’ll Do
Scrape new sources of audio data and bring them into our ingestion pipeline.
Operate and extend the cloud infrastructure for the ingestion pipeline, currently running on GCP and managed with Terraform.
Collaborate closely with scientists to shift cost, throughput, and quality, delivering richer data at larger scale and lower cost.
Work with the AI team and leadership to craft the AI team’s dataset roadmap for new consumer and enterprise products.
Ideal Candidate
BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
5+ years of industry experience in software development.
Proficiency with Bash/Python scripting in Linux environments.
Experience with Docker and infrastructure‑as‑code, and professional experience with at least one major cloud provider (GCP).
Experience with web crawlers or large‑scale data processing workflows is a plus.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
