Job Summary Brandeis University is seeking an Associate Network Engineer to support the IT department’s network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability for academic, research, and administrative operations. Responsibilities Assist in troubleshooting routers, switches, VMware, servers, wireless, and firewalls; resolve operational problems escalated beyond help desk support. Monitor network and system performance; prepare and maintain documentation, guides, inventory lists, and warranty information. Configure automatic backups for all networking equipment and configurations. Support deployment and maintenance of local and remote data centers; upgrade firmware on network equipment to mitigate security risks. Help design network maintenance and expansion plans; conduct network reviews, evaluate current state, and provide improvement feedback. Act as on‑site technical point of contact for network components requiring vendor participation (voice, data, security, energy management, retail point‑of‑sales, etc.). Represent ITS network interests in capital projects and non‑ITS projects; provide technical specifications. Provide periodic status reports on projects and system conditions to ITS Management. Qualifications B.S. in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent) with 1–3 years of enterprise/data‑center networking experience; A.S. with 3–5 years; or HS/GED with 5–7 years. Basic understanding of TCP/IP, OSPF, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, and the OSI model. Familiarity with enterprise‑grade networking hardware (Arista, Aruba, Cisco, etc.). Strong problem‑solving, analytical, communication, interpersonal, and time‑management skills. Self‑motivated, able to work independently or collaboratively; eager to learn and explore new projects.
