Lower School
Position Summary The Technology Integrator brings curiosity, creativity, and a spirit of exploration to every lesson. Working closely with classroom teachers and school leadership, this person designs experiences that invite students to think like makers, problem‑solvers, and designers — not passive consumers of screens. Our approach to technology is intentional and developmentally grounded: for our youngest learners (K–2), technology instruction is integrated sparingly and thoughtfully, with hands‑on, physical making at the center. Grades 3–6 engage more directly with digital tools as vehicles for authentic creation, collaboration, and inquiry. The Technology Integrator reports to the Administrative Team.
Our Philosophy We believe technology is a tool for creativity, not a destination. Students should leave our program not merely having learned software, but having learned to think, critique, and create. We are guided by the following core values:
Exploration over instruction — We design spaces where students discover through inquiry before they are told what to do.
Design over consumption — We empower students to be active creators of meaningful projects, rather than passive consumers of media.
Process over product — The true learning happens in the struggle—iteration, productive failure, and thoughtful revision are the core of the work.
Age‑appropriateness over trend — We actively resist the race for the “newest” tool. We always ask, “Is this developmentally right for this child?” before asking, “Is this cutting‑edge?”
As a school, we are deliberately measured and deeply intentional in our use of technology with young children. The ideal candidate will deeply share this instinct—bringing both conviction and creative energy to working within a balanced, human‑centered framework.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Education, Instructional Technology, or related field preferred
Minimum 3 years of experience teaching elementary‑age students (K–6)
Familiarity with generative AI tools and an understanding of how to teach ethical AI literacy, digital citizenship, and critical evaluation of digital content.
Demonstrated skill in project‑based, hands‑on, or maker‑centered instruction
Comfort with physical computing tools (robotics, circuitry, coding platforms such as Scratch or similar) as well as traditional making materials
Ability to differentiate instruction for wide developmental ranges, including K–2 learners for whom technology may be introduced primarily through unplugged or physical activities.
Strong classroom management and community‑building skills
Collaborative spirit, strong presentation skills, and the ability to plan and lead professional learning in partnership with classroom teachers.
Performance Responsibilities
Design and teach K–6 innovation and technology experiences that center curiosity, critical thinking, exploration, and student agency in an evolving digital landscape.
Develop a developmentally appropriate scope and sequence—including intentional, limited use of screens for K–2 students, with an emphasis on physical making, unplugged computational thinking, and hands‑on engineering.
Integrate digital tools, design thinking, and emerging technologies (including AI literacy) to enhance authentic student projects and foster creative problem‑solving.
Guide students through iterative design and inquiry processes: identifying problems, brainstorming solutions, prototyping, testing, evaluating inputs/outputs, and revising.
Collaborate with classroom teachers to seamlessly connect technology, media literacy, and design experiences to ongoing disciplinary units of study.
Design and deliver targeted professional development, workshops, and coaching sessions for faculty to introduce emerging technologies, AI workflows, and innovative pedagogical tools.
Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and collaborative school events.
Lead and contribute to school‑wide conversations regarding the ethical, responsible, and age‑appropriate use of technology, digital citizenship, and screen time.
Culture & Community
Create an inclusive classroom culture where risk‑taking is celebrated, intellectual resilience is built through trial and error, and every student sees themselves as a capable creator and critical thinker.
Build relationships with students that communicate respect, high expectations, and genuine enthusiasm for their ideas and unique perspectives.
Communicate clearly and warmly with families about the purpose, philosophy, and evolving approach of the technology and innovation program.
Operations & Administration
Maintain a dynamic physical and digital space that is organized and safe, and that reflects the creative, evolving work of students.
Maintain accurate records of student growth, utilizing qualitative documentation, digital portfolios, and anecdotal observations.
Manage and maintain shared equipment, hardware, and digital subscriptions; track inventory and proactively communicate supply and software needs.
Characteristics of Professional Excellence
Strive to live the school mission in word and deed.
Enthusiastically engage in service to the school and its community.
Foster an open and inclusive learning environment.
St. Thomas’s Day School is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
