Role Description The Counter Sales role is a full-time, on-site position located in Rochester, NY. This role is responsible for assisting walk-in and call-in customers, processing orders, and providing product recommendations for pipe, valves, and fittings. Day-to-day tasks include quoting prices, checking inventory, entering orders into the system, and coordinating with the warehouse for accurate and timely fulfillment. The Counter Sales team member will answer product questions, troubleshoot basic issues, and help customers find solutions that match their technical and budget requirements. The role may also include maintaining an organized and clean counter area, updating product displays, and supporting inside sales and operations with related administrative tasks.
Qualifications
Strong communication skills, including clear verbal and written interactions with customers and team members.
Customer service abilities focused on responsiveness, patience, and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.
Sales skills, including upselling, cross-selling, and relationship-building with trade and industrial customers.
Experience or interest in training and mentoring team members on products, systems, or processes.
Sales management aptitude, such as tracking opportunities, following up on quotes, and supporting sales targets.
Basic knowledge or willingness to learn about pipe, valves, fittings, and related products; prior industry experience is a plus.
Comfort using point-of-sale or ERP systems, email, and basic office software.
Ability to stand for extended periods, handle moderate lifting, and work safely in a warehouse/counter environment.
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or trade education is beneficial.
Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a collaborative approach to working with operations, warehouse, and sales teams.
