Department‑Specific Responsibilities
Guide the creation, delivery, and governance of useful, relevant content for Kelley and its stakeholders as part of the Content and Creative function.
Report to the Senior Graphic Designer and work closely with creative and visual content colleagues, Enrollment Marketing Strategy, Brand Strategy, and Digital and Web functions to develop integrated, brand‑aligned content that delivers on desired outcomes.
Support the development of scalable visual assets that can be adapted across channels, including digital campaigns and paid media.
Create original and visually engaging designs for a wide range of media including print materials, digital platforms, and environmental graphics.
Design assets that support the school’s strategic initiatives such as enrollment marketing and brand reputation and awareness.
Help develop, evaluate, and maintain reusable design templates, processes, and asset libraries that support efficient production, scalability, and brand consistency.
Design assets in a way that allows for adaptation across formats and channels (e.g., resizing, reformatting, and component‑based design).
Ensure all creative output aligns with the Kelley School of Business and Indiana University brand guidelines, tone, and visual identity standards.
Act as a brand ambassador by providing design guidance and assisting with the application of brand elements across all media.
Work closely with cross‑functional teams, including enrollment marketing strategist, content specialists, visual content creators, social media managers, to bring concepts to life.
Participate in project kick‑off meetings and creative briefs to determine design goals, timelines, and deliverables.
Manage multiple concurrent projects with varying deadlines, ensuring on‑time and high‑quality delivery.
Design visuals optimized for various social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, etc.) and ensure designs meet accessibility and responsive design standards.
Collaborate with digital and web teams to design graphics for email campaigns, newsletters, landing pages, and web banners that support measurable engagement.
Prepare final press‑ready files and liaise with printing vendors to ensure accurate production and quality control.
Review proofs, adjust as necessary, and ensure consistency between digital and printed outputs.
Maintain organized archives of design assets, project files, and final outputs to support team efficiency and historical reference.
Develop multiple versions and variations of design assets to support testing and optimization across digital and paid campaigns.
General Responsibilities
Identify basic and complex graphic design projects, perform research, conceptualize design, set timelines, and create visual elements for use in a variety of marketing and communications needs, adhering to IU brand guidelines.
Consult regularly with marketing and communications staff and other key stakeholders to determine project needs and ensure graphic design elements align with strategy and objectives.
Design the layout and format for digital and print graphic design content, including selection of colors, images, fonts, logos, and placement for various marketing and communications needs, audiences, and platforms; may delegate basic design tasks to Graphic Design Assistant(s).
Create images, graphic elements, illustrations, and other visual content using a variety of graphic software, including Adobe Creative Suite and PowerPoint, and take on special and/or urgent projects.
Seek input from peers and stakeholders on a variety of graphic design elements to evaluate effectiveness of different aesthetics, colors, fonts, images, etc.
Provide organizational training on graphic design methodology and strategy.
Provide guidance to Graphic Design Assistants.
Qualifications Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art, or a related field.
Work Experience Required: 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
Preferred: 2 years of professional design experience (agency, higher education, or in-house preferred); experience working within higher education or non‑profit sectors; completion of IU’s Gen AI 101 course (for current IU employees).

Ability to use AI tools (ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) to support design work, including ideation, review and refinement, and reducing repetitive production tasks.
Strong portfolio demonstrating creative range, layout skills, and brand consistency.
Experience with web design principles, HTML/CSS, and digital accessibility standards.
Experience with motion graphics or video editing tools (e.g., After Effects, Premiere Pro).
Understanding of print production processes and vendor coordination.
Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
