Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest as an Appointment Coordinator specializing in bariatric surgery scheduling. This role is vital in supporting the Bariatric Service Line by managing surgical and endoscopy case coordination, department communications, and patient charge preparation. Key Responsibilities
Schedule surgical and endoscopy procedures with precision, ensuring all details such as date, time, surgeon, anesthesia, and pre-operative interviews are accurate. Provide clear and courteous scheduling instructions to physician office staff. Optimize the surgical schedule by balancing case volume and assigning procedures to appropriate operating rooms. Maintain professionalism by meeting commitments, working independently, adapting to change, and adhering to attendance standards. Manage incoming communications by screening and directing calls efficiently. Continuously seek process improvements with attention to detail and a commitment to excellence. Obtain necessary pre-authorizations, eligibility, and benefits for scheduled procedures, coordinating with business offices and hospital departments. Enter orders accurately into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system as directed by providers. Support clinic operations by assisting with patient intake and educating patients on pre-operative requirements such as lab work and imaging. Collaborate with the Bariatric Coordinator and team on additional duties as assigned. Education Completion of an accredited program in surgical technology, practical nursing, or medical assisting is required. Experience At least one year of experience in appointment scheduling, preferably within a medical environment, is necessary. Certifications and Licenses
Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), Certified First Assistant (CFA), or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential in good standing. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Mental and Physical Requirements The role demands flexibility, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively within a team. It requires sustained mental and visual focus, with approximately 85% of the time spent sedentary. Ability to lift or carry up to 10 pounds is necessary. Working Environment Work is performed in an air-conditioned setting with moderate noise levels.
