Serve as the educational leader and assistant to the Principal for the middle school and high school Alternative Education Program (AEP). Responsible for implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Board of Trustees to ensure all AEP students experience an opportunity to be productive members of society.
The educational leader of AEP must create an environment for positive change that allows for exploration of and growth toward individual potential. Responsible for working collaboratively with campus and district administrators and to communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in WISD and in other districts and schools in order to provide a climate that is conducive to the development of self-esteem, academic achievement and vocational awareness. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for planning, curriculum development, program evaluation, extracurricular and co-curricular activities, and emergency procedures.
Serves as district information, learning, and technology integration facilitator and a master teacher role model to support improved student achievement; coordinates services where literacy, inquiry, thinking, imagination, discovery, and creativity are central to students' learning and knowledge development in all curriculums, and learning for life; provides services and resources to prepare students to function effectively in an increasingly complex informational and technological world; and facilitates the integration of technology into the instructional program by supporting, training, coaching, and mentoring teachers and administrative staff. Function as a part of a team which is involved in planning and implementation of all district initiatives that pertain to learning and technology integration.
QualificationsMaster's Degree
Texas Principal or other appropriate Texas certificate
Three or more year's successful classroom teaching experience
Experience as a teacher-leader or teacher-coach preferred
Experience in educational technology preferred
Special Education Certification Required

Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Management- Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs to meet identified student and staff needs. Develop approaches to ensure diverse formats and platform are equally and seamlessly accessible.
- Create an environment that is conducive to learning, appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students, and supportive of teachers and parents.
- Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping staff pilot such efforts when appropriate.
- Promote the use of technology in the teaching and learning process.
- Regularly consult the campus leadership team and the campus advisory committees about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus educational programs. Include student representatives when appropriate.

- Assist in piloting new technology with classroom teachers, including evaluation of the pilot itself.
- Assist in the design, development, and analysis of technology-based curriculum tools, specifically centered on mobile devices.
- Design, create and publish multimedia and online content including learning modules, tools, videos, print material and courses for a wide-variety of audiences.
- Plan, design and model effective digital-age learning environments.
- Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
- Supervise reporting and monitoring of AEP student attendance and work with attendance clerk on follow-up investigations.
- Compile, maintain, and store all physical and computerized AEP reports, records, and other required documents.
- Direct, manage, and monitor co-curricular and extracurricular programs and activities as assigned.
- Ensure that AEP students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods.
- Help to develop and support a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
- Ensure that school and AEP rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
- Stay up-to-date professionally through the selection of quality professional development opportunities for personal growth.
