About the Team Web Presence & Platform (WPP) creates Stripe’s public-facing storytelling across stripe.com, link.com, and internal surfaces. The Presence team balances clarity, polish, and systems thinking with strategic storytelling and conversion goals, working closely with engineering, marketing, content, and product to deliver work that is not only beautiful, but measurably moves the business.
What you’ll do As one of two Design Managers on the Presence team, you will lead a group of designers focusing on key initiatives across stripe.com, link.com, Bridge, and Sessions. You will own the creative direction for acquisition, global expansion, experimentation, and our annual customer event, Sessions. You will define team strategy, plan roadmaps, coach and grow your team, build a collaborative culture, and uphold a high bar for visual design and storytelling. You will also partner with WPP leaders on quarterly and yearly roadmaps and collaborate with other design leaders across Stripe to shape a consistent design voice.
Responsibilities
Manage and grow a high‑performing design team, focus on feedback, coaching, and long‑term career development
Inspire and motivate the team, creating a clear design vision aligned with Stripe’s goals
Craft novel moments of storytelling and delight for our web presence while upholding quality standards
Balance growth with putting users first while maintaining a very high quality bar
Champion curiosity and adoption of new AI tools and evolving ways of working
Understand global needs and design systems, knowing when to stick to the system vs. when to break away
Work on broadly defined concepts and sometimes on narrowly defined tactical deliverables
Advocate for design excellence at every stage of the product lifecycle, balancing speed, quality, and bold experimentation
Collaborate with other design specialists and managers on team‑wide initiatives such as recruiting and developing content standards
Influence strategic decisions across all corners of our web presence
Partner with marketing, communications, growth, and Link teams to define information architecture and tell the right stories
Help scale our design systems, devise generative art directions, propose web animations, and distill interaction‑heavy product launch materials on sites such as stripe.com
Minimum Requirements
6+ years of creative direction and management experience, and 9+ years of relevant experience in strategy, information architecture, web design, and creative technology
Leadership in driving strategic thinking for impactful digital experiences
Conviction in the web as a storytelling medium, demonstrated through a portfolio of design systems, engaging microsites, Figma libraries, WebGL experiments, CSS art, or similar work
Expert understanding of the formal elements of design, including typography, layout, balance, and proportion
Preferred Qualifications
Sufficiently advanced knowledge of modern HTML and CSS to empathise with and lead designers and design engineers
A tenacity for moving quickly on new, green‑field projects while delivering on long‑term roadmaps
Experience at a company with global scale, expanding to new markets, leading localization strategy, and integrating with l10n
Accountability and a high bar when working with production systems
Ability to communicate front‑end or information architecture designs using documentation and crisp visualisationIntuition and empathy to gather consensus among different stakeholders and subject matter experts
Hybrid Work and Remote Options This role can be performed from an office or a remote location 35+ miles (56+ km) from a Stripe office. Remote workers are expected to regularly work from home, while office‑assigned employees should spend at least 50% of their time in a local office.
Pay and Benefits The annual US base salary range for this role is $194,900 - $292,300, with additional equity, bonus, 401(k), medical, dental, vision, and wellness stipends.
