Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
•
Deliver high-quality primary pediatric care during scheduled and walk-in visits. •
Perform thorough physical exams to monitor growth, development, and overall health. •
Diagnose and treat a wide range of pediatric conditions, including both acute illnesses and chronic diseases. •
Administer immunizations and counsel families on vaccine schedules and preventive care. •
Provide health guidance on topics such as nutrition, physical activity, mental health, sleep, and behavioral issues. •
Coordinate care for children with complex medical or psychosocial needs, referring to specialists as appropriate. •
Provide emergency and urgent care as needed, including first aid and stabilization. •
Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and compliant patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system. •
Accurately code and bill for services and follow administrative guidelines. •
Comply with clinic regulations and standards for prescribing, charting, lab follow-up, and referrals.
Teaching & Mentorship
•
Supervise and mentor pediatric residents from Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital during continuity and ambulatory rotations. •
Participate in clinical teaching, bedside education, and case-based learning with residents. •
Assist with curriculum delivery and evaluation of residents' clinical performance. •
Serve as a role model for evidence-based, compassionate, and culturally responsive pediatric care.
Administrative & Collaborative Responsibilities
•
Meet or exceed clinical productivity benchmarks and participate in quality improvement initiatives. •
Attend required staff meetings, teaching conferences, and quality improvement activities. •
Notify the Chief Medical Officer promptly of any changes to licensure, DEA status, hospital privileges, or legal matters. •
Consult with the Chief Medical Officer on complex clinical cases and interpretation of clinic protocols.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
•
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. •
Valid California medical license and DEA registration. •
Board certification or board eligibility in Pediatrics.
Experience
•
Experience providing pediatric primary care (experience with underserved or community health center populations preferred). •
Prior experience in teaching, supervision, or mentoring of medical trainees strongly preferred. •
Bilingual in English and Spanish is strongly preferred.
