Custodian - Part Time

Position Overview

St. Mark Lutheran Church is seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Part-Time Custodian to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our congregation, preschool, ministries, and visitors. This individual will be responsible for routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and preparing spaces for events and activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily and weekly cleaning of church facilities, including restrooms, classrooms, offices, kitchen areas, and common spaces
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize surfaces as required
• Empty trash and recycling throughout the building
• Restock restroom and cleaning supplies
• Light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, minor repairs, or reporting larger maintenance issues
• Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for meetings, worship services, and events
• Ensure building security by locking and unlocking doors as scheduled
• Maintain outdoor entryways (e.g., clearing debris, light snow/ice removal if needed)
• Follow safety protocols and proper use of cleaning materials and equipment

Qualifications

• Prior custodial or facilities experience preferred but not required
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently
• Respectful of the church environment and its ministries
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Work Environment

This role involves working in a church and preschool setting, often during non‑service hours. Some flexibility in scheduling is required depending on church activities and events.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
