Position Overview
We are seeking experienced
Inpatient Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs)
to support nursing and patient care services at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Health Care System in Charleston, South Carolina. CNAs will provide direct patient care services across inpatient units, including medical/surgical, long-term care, inpatient psychiatric units, and other acute or critical care areas as needed.
This position supports the Department of Veterans Affairs mission to deliver high-quality care to Veterans. Contract personnel may be assigned to units caring for
COVID-19 positive patients or Patients Under Investigation (PUIs)
. Refusal to work in these areas may result in removal from assignment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including hygiene, mobility, feeding, and toileting
- Measure and record vital signs and report changes in patient condition
- Assist with patient transport, positioning, and safety measures
- Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic patient care environment
- Use computer systems and clinical technology as required
- Follow all VA policies, procedures, and HIPAA requirements
- Demonstrate competency in Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams
Required Qualifications
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
from any U.S. state - CPR certification
from an American Heart Association–approved provider - Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
certification - Minimum of 1 year of current inpatient experience
, with work completed within the last six (6) months in one of the following: - Medical/Surgical Unit
- Long-Term Care or Nursing Home
- Inpatient Psychiatric Unit
- Ability to use computers and healthcare technology
- No physical or health restrictions that interfere with job duties
- U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder required
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Proof of tuberculosis testing, rubella testing, and required immunizations within one year prior to start
- Completion of HIPAA training
- Validated competencies and training records must be maintained and available to the VA upon request
Uniform Requirements
- CNAs must provide their own
royal blue scrubs
and VA-compliant name badge - Uniforms and name badges must be worn at all times while on VA Medical Center grounds
