Position Overview: The Substance Abuse Counselor will provide comprehensive counseling and support services to individuals struggling with substance use disorder within the Chicago area. Clinic is Outpatient Treatment. This role involves assessment, treatment planning, individual and group therapy, and ongoing support to facilitate clients' recovery and overall well-being. Hours of work are 5:30am to 1:30pm 5 days per week.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial assessments and screenings to evaluate clients' substance abuse history, mental health status, and treatment needs.
- Develop personalized treatment plans in collaboration with clients, setting achievable goals and objectives for their recovery journey.
- Provide individual counseling sessions to clients, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address underlying issues contributing to substance abuse.
- Lead and facilitate group therapy sessions, fostering a safe and supportive environment for clients to share experiences and learn from one another.
- Monitor clients' progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans as needed, ensuring a dynamic and responsive approach to their evolving needs.
- Educate clients and their families about the nature of addiction, recovery processes, coping strategies, and relapse prevention techniques.
- Collaborate with medical professionals, social workers, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure holistic care for clients.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of client interactions, treatment plans, progress notes, and any relevant records in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Advocate for clients' needs and rights, providing necessary referrals to additional services such as medical care, housing assistance, and vocational training.
Qualifications:
State licensure or certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CADC) or certifiable in the state of Illinois.
- Experience working directly with individuals in substance abuse treatment and recovery.
- Strong understanding of various counseling modalities and evidence-based practices for substance abuse treatment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport and build trusting relationships with clients.
- Empathetic and nonjudgmental approach to working with diverse populations.
- Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines governing substance abuse counseling.
Preferred:
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish or other languages commonly spoken in the Chicago community.
- Experience working in a community health center or outpatient treatment setting.
