Responsibilities

• Assist participants with activities of daily living such as grooming, hygiene, and mobility to promote independence and dignity.
• Monitor behavioral patterns and implement individualized behavior management strategies under supervision to ensure safety and positive outcomes.
• Support participants during group activities, recreational outings, and community integration efforts to foster social skills and community involvement.
• Observe and document participant behaviors meticulously, noting progress or concerns to inform care plans and team discussions.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties, organizing activity spaces, and ensuring safety standards are upheld at all times.
• Assist with snack preparation, ensuring nutritional needs are met while accommodating dietary restrictions or preferences.
• Participate in ongoing training related to CPR, first aid, CPI, or other relevant areas to enhance your caregiving skills.

Skills

• Proven experience working with people with developmental disabilities or in assisted living environments; group home experience is highly valued.
• Strong understanding of behavioral management strategies for individuals with developmental disabilities
• Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts; physically capable of supporting participants during transfers or activities.
• Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with participants, families, team members, and community partners.
• Demonstrated patience and empathy when working with individuals requiring specialized care or exhibiting challenging behaviors.
• Basic knowledge of first aid and CPR certification; ongoing training in emergency response procedures is preferred.
• Ability to maintain detailed documentation of care activities while respecting confidentiality standards.
• Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing needs within a dynamic caregiving environment; strong organizational skills are essential. Minimum Employment Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent or have 1 year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities.
• Successful fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice and FBI.
• Health clearance and TB screening must be completed
• Must have a reliable vehicle for up to 4 passengers, a valid California driver's license, a good driving record, and provide ongoing proof of auto insurance required by the State.
• First Aid and CPR training with certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Completion of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training is required within the first quarter of hire.
• Person-Centered Thinking certification must be obtained within the first quarter of hire.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is required.
• This position requires regular movement, including standing and walking for up to two hours, frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
