Special Education Coordinator

The Special Education Coordinator will provide coaching and support to all site-based special education teachers at our campuses (Santa Ana, Oceanside, Wilmington, Riverside, Upland). Some travel required.

Ideal candidates have 5+ of successful special education teaching and leadership experience.

S/he acts as a specialist to professional and paraprofessional personnel in the area of Special Education. S/he will facilitate instructional programs for students with disabilities, assess program needs, and implement activities to achieve program objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop effective behavioral intervention plans including behavioral goals focused on stabilizing the student in his/her current setting;
• Assist Special Education teachers with curriculum development, implementation and classroom methodology of instruction;
• Participate as a member of the IEP Team as appropriate;
• Coach and assist school special education personnel in identifying and implementing evidence-based instructional practices to improve outcomes;
• Assist teachers in developing goals and objectives for annual reviews;
• Coordinate and implement parent education meetings;
• Assist in program evaluation for SELPA.
• Visit all sites and classrooms to monitor and provide technical advice concerning instructional activities;
• Develop, coordinate, and deliver school based professional development;
• Analyze and report on data as it relates to special education services;
• Develop and update policy and procedure documents and resources;
• Analyze and interpret laws and regulations governing the provision of special education;
• Assist principals and administrators with their respective special education programs by case managing, problem solving, working with special education problems that arise, and by assessing program needs;
• Serve as liaison and consult with other professionals, appropriate agencies, and the community in providing full educational opportunities for special needs children;
• Assist general and special education administrators to evaluate special education staff, evaluate staff members as assigned;
• Develop and monitor data collection systems; train staff to use the systems;
• Provide intervention strategies for the classroom and individual children with special needs and high-risk behaviors;
• Meet with groups of identified at-risk students at school sites; confer with parents and conduct education training related to behavioral and discipline issues;
• Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, Scholarship Prep's mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior; and,
• Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Valid Special Education credential or Administrative Services Credential required.
• Three (3) or more years of successful teaching experience in special education.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Abilities:
Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, enter data into a computer; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors and on the telephone; the physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach overhead. must be able to walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks.

Work Environment:
This position works in a variety of settings including indoor, outdoor work environments.
May experience seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions well as odors, dust, moderate noise level.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70, $95,000.00 per year
