Overview Under the supervision of the Creative Director, CAD Tech is responsible for designing, developing, and improving products, systems, and components from concept through production. This role translates functional requirements into practical, manufacturable designs and drawings while ensuring performance, cost, quality, and safety standards are met. The CAD Tech works closely with the Creative Director, Production Director, project managers, fabrication teams, and vendors to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Design mechanical, structural, or product components using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD (preferred), or similar)
Develop detailed drawings, specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs)
Perform design calculations, tolerancing, and material selection
Collaborate with manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost‑effective
Support prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs
Troubleshoot design issues with Creative Director and implement engineering changes
Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, safety standards, and quality requirements
Work with vendors and suppliers on components, materials, and fabrication methods
Maintain engineering documentation and revision control
Support continuous improvement initiatives for existing products or systems
Manage CNC production and 3D printing or additive fabrication technologies
Skills and Competencies
CAD & technical drawing
Design for manufacturability (DFM)
Clear written and verbal communication
Physical Requirements
Combination of office and shop/manufacturing floor environment
Occasional travel to job sites, vendors, or fabrication facilities
May require lifting or site inspections related to product design
Required Education or Experience
2+ years of experience in design or product development (experience level adjustable)
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD (preferred), or similar)
Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical design principles
Ability to interpret technical specifications and engineering drawings
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills
Attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with fabrication, welding, CNC machining, or sheet metal design
Experience designing mobile equipment, trailers, structures, or displays
Familiarity with FEA, load calculations, or structural analysis
Experience working in a production or manufacturing environment
Knowledge of cost estimating and value engineering
