The Role: Software Engineering Manager (Full Stack Focus)

Join our innovative Software Engineering team at British Airways as a Software Engineering Manager, where you’ll play a key role in leading teams to deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions. With a focus on large scale full-stack development, this role is ideal for those who thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment, bringing expertise in AWS, Microservices, API, and DevOps.

What You’ll Do:

1. Lead internal and external teams of software engineers, fostering a culture of trust, collaboration and continuous improvement.
2. Develop and execute full-stack development strategies, ensuring scalable, high-performance software solutions.
3. Work closely with stakeholders to define technical requirements and translate them into actionable development plans.
4. Proactively evaluate the current state of the product development and work with CoEs to drive sustainable improvements in the team and across the organisation.
5. Drive the adoption of modern DevOps practices in the team to enhance software delivery and operational efficiency.
6. Champion best practices in software engineering, ensuring security, maintainability, and performance.
7. Present technical solutions and progress to stakeholders, translating complex concepts into clear business value.
8. Build strong relationships across teams, acting as a bridge between engineering and business functions.

What You’ll Bring to British Airways:

1. Proven experience working on enterprise-level software engineering programmes.
2. A deep understanding of modern full-stack development, particularly Java, React, and AWS.
3. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to present technical concepts clearly.
4. Experience with DevOps tools and methodologies, enabling efficient and secure software delivery.
5. A growth-focused leadership style, with a passion for continuous improvement.
6. A proactive, problem-solving mindset, with the ability to drive innovation and change.
7. Ability to balance between applying the fundamentals and taking a pragmatic solution.

Your Experience:

1. Proven experience in full-stack software engineering, with a strong technical foundation.
2. Expertise in Java, React, AWS, and modern cloud-native architectures.
3. Experience leading teams in an agile development environment.
4. Strong DevOps knowledge, with experience in CI/CD pipelines and automation.
