6-month temporary assignment based‑on‑site in El Centro, California. Local Imperial Valley / El Centro‑area candidates only; this role is not remote or relocation‑based.
Primary Function Under general supervision the Analyst performs project assignments and analyzes business functions to determine computer system application requirements. The role includes improving business processes, application design, testing, implementation, and providing documentation for new and existing system applications. Other duties as assigned are also performed.
Distinguishing Characteristics This is an entry‑level Business Analyst I classification that focuses on application planning, analysis, design, testing, implementation, and support. Progression to the next level depends on vacancy availability.
The incumbent serves as the liaison between a functional business area and the IT Department, requiring an in‑depth understanding of that area’s functions, processes, and applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, develop, and implement business process improvement programs and projects in the assigned business area.
Design, configure, test, and maintain new and existing system applications.
Assist business experts, Programmer Analysts, and Programmers in testing and resolving application problems; identify, research, and resolve user issues.
Assist in documenting, designing, configuring, testing, and implementing software application upgrades and patches and support software application usage.
Assist in analyzing, designing, and implementing information system solutions to support organizational and business requirements.
Assist in developing and maintaining system security access standards, system data integrity, and quality of data output.
Develop and prepare status reports on system application business process improvements and encountered problems.
Assist in developing training material and train users on business processes and system application use.
Develop and maintain metrics and reports on business area improvements.
Monitor the development of business process improvement assignments.
Assist staff in analyzing, testing, and resolving production problems.
Determine job scheduling requirements to run batch or interactive jobs.
Develop and run application software queries for business areas.
Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience: One year of work with a specific business unit and an enterprise system application process or other ERP application package system. Progressively responsible directly related experience may substitute for the required education at a ratio of two years of experience for one year of education.
Licensing: Valid driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Configuring and supporting applications; standard or query reporting programs; business process design.
Proficiency with PC hardware and software such as Microsoft Office, Visio, and other IT tools within a network environment.
Understanding of system application processes or ERP packages.
Individual or group training principles and practices; safe work methods.
Problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and data analysis using mathematical and accounting concepts.
Ability to communicate technical issues and present to inter‑department groups.
Flexible work hours and availability for on‑call production support.
Tools and Equipment Used General office equipment, computer, calculator, file cabinet, telephone, fax machine, copier, computer printout, modem, controllers, cable, Microsoft Office, Visio, RS6000, Unix, Oracle, other related software and peripheral equipment, and vehicle.
Supervisory Responsibilities None
Work Environment The work environment is a well‑lit office with climate control. Employees may occasionally be exposed to outside weather, fumes, and airborne particles. Noise level is continuously moderate.
Physical Demands
Frequent sitting; frequent use of hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls.
Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 5 pounds; occasional lifting and/or moving up to 15 pounds.
Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Physical effort primarily involves strength, coordination, and dexterity.
