Job Summary:
The Senior Manager of Data Center & Microsoft 365 Services is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational excellence, and continuous improvement of enterprise infrastructure across both on-premises data centers and Microsoft 365 environments. This role ensures high availability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems and collaboration platforms. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise across infrastructure and cloud SaaS services, along with strong leadership capabilities to drive innovation, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Strategy
- Define and execute a comprehensive infrastructure strategy spanning data centers and Microsoft 365 services
- Lead, mentor, and develop cross-functional teams including data center engineers and M365 administrators
- Establish governance, policies, and standards across infrastructure and collaboration platforms
- Partner with business and IT leaders to align technology investments with organizational goals
- Drive roadmap planning for hybrid infrastructure, cloud adoption, and modern workplace initiatives
- Operations and Service Delivery
- Ensure 24/7 availability, reliability, and performance of data center and Microsoft 365 services
- Oversee incident, problem, and change management processes across platforms
- Manage SLAs, KPIs, and service health metrics for both infrastructure and M365 services Lead service continuity, backup, and disaster recovery strategies
- Implement automation and operational efficiencies across environments
- Infrastructure & Data Center Management
- Oversee servers, storage, networking, and virtualization platforms
- Manage lifecycle planning, capacity management, and hardware refresh initiatives
- Lead data center migrations, consolidations, and modernization efforts
- Ensure optimal performance of compute, storage, and network resources Evaluate and integrate emerging infrastructure technologies
- Microsoft Services Management
- Own administration and optimization of Microsoft 365
- Ensure service availability, performance, and user experience for collaboration tools
- Oversee licensing, tenant configuration, and service adoption strategies
- Drive governance for data retention, information protection, and compliance within M365
- Facilities & Vendor Management
- Manage relationships with data center providers, Microsoft, and other vendors
- Oversee physical infrastructure including power, cooling, and physical security
- Ensure vendor and SaaS provider performance meets SLAs and contractual obligations
- Manage procurement, contracts, and licensing agreements
- Security & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
- Maintain physical and logical security across data center and M365 platforms
- Support audits, risk assessments, and remediation efforts
- Financial Management
- Develop and manage budgets for data center operations and Microsoft 365 services
- Optimize costs across infrastructure, licensing, and cloud services
- Provide financial forecasting and ROI analysis for technology investments
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiency
Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelors/4 Yr Degree
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 10+ years
Years of Management Experience: 5+ years
Certifications / Licenses: Microsoft certifications (e.g., Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, Azure certifications)
Specific Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, virtualization)
- Hands-on or leadership experience managing Microsoft 365 environments
- Experience with hybrid environments integrating on-prem data centers and cloud/SaaS platforms
- Familiarity with automation, scripting, and infrastructure-as-code
- Strategic thinking and transformation leadership
- Strong team leadership and cross-functional collaboration
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management
- Deep problem-solving and incident management expertise
