About the Role Leidos is seeking a Network Enterprise Design Engineer Senior to join our San Diego, CA team. The role focuses on delivering the core backbone of the Navy‑Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) and Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN), including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport.
The Senior Engineer will implement and monitor security measures for communication systems and networks, and provide advice to ensure systems and personnel adhere to established security standards and governmental requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, review, and maintain procedures related to overall monitoring of hosts/systems.
Perform defensive cyber operation duties, including ensuring server compliance with Marine Corps IAVM and Tenable Security Center.
Configure and maintain the health of Confluent, Kafka, data/ingest flows, and supporting architecture.
Develop and execute government‑approved security policies, plans, and procedures; implement data network security measures; conduct IS security incident handling; support Continuity of Operations Plan/Disaster Recovery (COOP/DR) plans and perform certification of IS and networks.
Perform weekly vulnerability audits, submit Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M), and assist with patching for all DCO Division systems to maintain compliance with operational directives.
Teach, coach, and mentor others.
Build effective communications to explain complex technical information to wider audiences.
Basic Qualifications
US Citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance.
Minimum of an 8‑year related experience; High School Diploma or GED.
Current IAT Level III certification.
Experience with Software Defined Networks.
Proficient in Kafka architecture (brokers, topics, partitions, consumers, producers) and Kafka CLI tools for topic creation, data publishing, and message consumption.
Experience managing schema evolution in Confluent’s Schema Registry using Avro and JSON Schema.
Solid knowledge of Linux, SQL, KQL, SSL/TLS, Java, Python, and experience with Go or Node.js for lightweight streaming applications.
Location and Compensation San Diego, CA – Hourly rate range: $45/hour – $55/hour.
