Stephen Gould Corporation is a global provider of packaging, merchandising, and supply chain solutions for leading brands and retailers. We’re looking for an Industrial Designer in Rhode Island to join our growing, cross‑functional design team.
This role offers hands‑on involvement throughout the full product development process, from concept ideation through engineering, production, and retail execution, working with a wide range of materials, manufacturing processes, and retail environments.
Role Overview The Industrial Designer will support new product development, packaging, and merchandising initiatives by creating concepts, producing detailed engineering documentation, and collaborating with internal teams and client stakeholders. This position is ideal for a creative, technically proficient designer who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and is comfortable balancing multiple projects with quick turnaround demands.
Key Responsibilities
Create
quick‑turn, photorealistic concept renderings and illustrations
using SolidWorks and SolidWorks Visualize.
Develop
detailed, part‑level engineering specifications
for quoting and production.
Manage lead times and project priorities in a fast‑paced, multi‑project environment.
Think creatively to deliver
innovative, visually compelling, and manufacturable design solutions .
Collaborate closely with internal design, engineering, and international manufacturing teams.
Work with
client marketing and brand teams
to align design intent with retail strategy.
Support
graphic design needs
when required.
Types of Projects
Temporary, semi‑permanent, and permanent retail fixtures.
Packaging Design
Consumer retail and protective/industrial packaging.
New Product Development
Product design across multiple markets.
Materials & Manufacturing Knowledge The Industrial Designer will work across a broad range of materials and production methods, including:
Corrugate
Paperboard
Rigid chipboard packaging
Thermoforming / vacuum forming
Molded paper
Sheet metal, aluminum, and wire
Fabricated plastics
Wood and particleboard
Cut & sew fabrics
Foam
Job Requirements & Qualifications
Comprehensive understanding of
manufacturing processes and production methods .
Strong ability to
communicate technical specifications , including coordination with international offices and vendors.
High proficiency in
SolidWorks ,
Adobe Photoshop , and
Adobe Illustrator .
Skilled in conceptualizing ideas through
hand sketches, marker renderings, or digital sketching .
Ability to manage projects from
concept through production , with flexibility to work overtime when needed.
Must reside in
Rhode Island or Southern Massachusetts .
Maintain a
dedicated home office
to support hybrid work.
Ability to
travel within the Northeast
for client meetings, development reviews, or corporate collaboration as required.
