Adult Education Teacher – CTE Information Technology Job Description / Essential Elements
Under the direction of the Director of Adult and Career Technology Education, provide an educational program and teach one or more classes of Information Technology to adults; develop, implement and present lesson plans according to established curriculum standards and requirements. Representative Duties
Provide an educational program within various aspects of Information Technology (hardware, software, computer technologies, etc.) to one or more classes of adults; assure educational programs and related learning activities comply with established curriculum, standards, requirements, laws and regulations. Apply current research-based strategies to provide classroom instruction to enhance student skills and knowledge of Information Technology. Develop, implement and present lesson plans according to established curriculum standards and requirements; coordinate and oversee student practices and assignments in the classroom. Provide individualized and small group instruction and tutoring to assure curriculum and learning activities adapt with the needs of individual students; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, supporting student efforts, exhibiting a friendly attitude and offering general guidance. Review, analyze and integrate required instructional materials with lesson plans and learning activities; modify instructional materials to adapt to student needs when appropriate. Distribute and collect student assignments; develop, prepare and administer tests; grade tests and assignments; record grades and maintain student records and files. Take attendance and maintain related records. Evaluate student performance and progress; administer and score performance based and benchmark assessments (including CASAS); adjust activities and materials to meet student skill levels and progress. Prepare students to take and pass Information Technology Certification Examinations. Identify the need for data, acquire data or create data sources and evaluate relevance of data. Participate in curriculum development programs for the school; provide input concerning district-wide curriculum development as directed. Operate a variety of office and classroom equipment including a copier, computer and assigned software; utilize various audio-visual equipment as required. Maintain classroom in a safe, clean and orderly condition; lock and unlock doors; report needs for maintenance and repairs. Attend and participate in various meetings and in-services as required; maintain competence through self-selected professional growth activities. Ability to work and communicate well with staff. KNOWLEDGE OF: Principles, theories, concepts, practices, procedures and techniques used in information technology. Practices, methods and procedures involved in the preparation of instructional materials. Adult Education standards, requirements, interpretation and application in instruction. Student guidance principles and practices. Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures. Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of assigned students. Operation of standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software. Oral and written communication skills. Policies and objectives of assigned programs and activities. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Record-keeping and report preparation techniques. ABILITY TO: Provide an educational program to one or more classes of adults. Develop and implement lesson plans according to established curriculum standards and requirements. Provide instruction to enhance student skills and knowledge. Develop, prepare and administer tests. Grade tests and assignments and assess student performance and progress. Interpret and apply applicable laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with students. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Plan and organize work. Meet schedules and time lines. Work independently with little direction. Maintain student records and files. Operate standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software. Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree, graduate courses needed to meet credential requirements, verification of subject matter competence, and/or holding one or more of various Information Technology certifications (i.e. CompTIA A+, CCNA, MTA, etc.). Licenses and Other Requirements
Valid Career Technical Education California Teaching Credential that authorizes instruction to Adult Education students. Working Conditions
ENVIRONMENT: Indoor work environment. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects as assigned by the position. HAZARDS: Contact with dissatisfied and abusive individuals and aggressive student behavior. Requirements / Qualifications
Candidates must possess: • Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree, graduate courses needed to meet credential requirements, verification of subject matter competence, and/or holding one or more of various Information Technology certifications (i.e. CompTIA A+, CCNA, MTA, etc.) • A valid Career Technical Education California teaching credential that authorizes instruction to Adult Education students, or eligibility to apply for a CTE credential upon hire. • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply Credential Copy Letter of Introduction (Indicate interest in morning and/or evening classes.)
