Job Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse in a long-term care facility. Responsibilities include assisting patients with daily living activities, collecting patient data, performing designated patient care procedures, and maintaining a clean and safe environment. The CNA also performs clerical, communication, and other related duties to facilitate efficient department services. Location:Valdez, Alaska, United States Responsibilities:
- Assists patients with routine activities of daily living, including range of motion, ambulation, positioning, skin care, linen changes, feeding, hygiene, toileting, and incontinent care. - Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and processes them as needed. - Obtains and records patient health data, including weights, vital signs, pulse oximetry, pain assessment, and I&O. - Communicates patient status and reports changes in patient condition to licensed professionals. - Performs incentive spirometry. - Transports patients and prepares them for diagnostic tests. - Assists rehab therapists. - Performs pulse oximetry/oxygen setup in oxygen therapy. - Prepares rooms with supplies and provides post-mortem care. - Prepares for admission and discharge. - Assists nurses in emergency situations. - Maintains and cleans equipment. - Performs oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning. - Performs blood sugar finger sticks. - Removes IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction. - Performs EKGs (department specific responsibility). - Answers unit phones and directs calls accordingly. - Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems and documents patient care and related duties appropriately. - Performs selected patient registration activities. - Coordinates equipment/supply needs and notifies the appropriate department of equipment malfunctions. Required Skills & Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent - CNA license - AHA BLS Provider CPR certification - Previous travel experience - Long Term Care (LTC) experience - Active CNA license in another state OR pending Alaska CNA license (application submitted with fee paid, fingerprints submitted, educational verification submitted, license verification submitted) - Valid driver's license and proof of personal vehicle insurance with rental car coverage Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- N/A Special Considerations:
- Little to no RTO is allowed. Must be willing to work holidays. All RTO must be sent with submittal and will not be considered after an offer or contract signing. - Must be willing to float within scope to meet facility needs. - Caregivers are generally not asked to rotate between night/day shifts, but occasional exceptions may occur for urgent staffing needs. - The facility provides housing (typically a 1-bedroom apartment) and a shared-use vehicle for travelers during the assignment. Pets are not allowed. - The vehicle is for use "around town" within a 30-mile radius of the facility. - If the traveler has time off during their contract, they must turn in the vehicle and will be issued a new one upon return. - The traveler must clean the housing unit upon departure to avoid additional cleaning fees. - The vehicle must be cleaned and returned with a full tank of gas. Scheduling: - 3x12 hour variable shifts (Days or Nights), dependent on facility needs at the start date. - Guaranteed 84 hours per 2 weeks. - Traveler can be called off for one 12-hour shift per 2 weeks.
