Job Description
Company: Cox Automotive – Mobile Diesel Technician Level II (DOT Management Level, Individual Contributor). Location: Must live in the specified city, state, or region. Remote work possible. Shift: Thursday through Monday – Variable Shift. 100% travel required. Compensation: Hourly base rate $26.73 – $40.10/hour (may vary based on location, qualifications, and performance). May be eligible for commission and incentive programs. Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials. Diagnose and repair various truck systems using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and confirm proper operation. Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and make judgment‑based decisions. Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections. Provide customer service by listening to client needs, delivering information, and resolving issues. Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage personal daily schedule. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures and details to the Repair Order (RO) via the proprietary TRAIT application on the company‑issued iOS device. Complete DOT forms and other documentation accurately and timely. Work independently, maintaining high productivity and adhering to standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary. Communicate with management and support team to obtain approvals, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings. Perform all work in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company safety, health, and environmental policies. Requirements
High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of experience in a related field (or a higher level degree or certification with five (5) years of experience). Must possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties. Must obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within eighteen (18) months. Must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. Must have a current and valid DOT medical card with at least four (4) months remaining; otherwise, a DOT physical is required. Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s license, capable of obtaining and maintaining a Driver Qualification File. Safe driving record is required. Certifications (preferred or to be obtained within 18 months)
