Job Description:
The Director of Secondary Packaging is a leadership role within CSL’s Drug Delivery Systems & Packaging (DDSP) department.
In this position, you will have the opportunity to shape how medicines are delivered to CSL’s patients, advance global sustainability objectives, and drive category transformation by developing long-term strategies.
This includes overseeing the transition from conventional materials and processes to innovative, patient-focused, and environmentally sustainable solutions.
In this role, you will influence and drive complex global category strategies across CSL’s product portfolio working with manufacturing, supply chain, technical operations (including primary packaging, device, and human factors areas within DDSP), quality, commercial, regulatory, and procurement.
You will act as a thought leader in technology, sustainability, and supplier innovation, steering CSL packaging strategy toward future‑ready solutions.
Responsibilities
- Evolve secondary packaging development processes – you will champion new processes, the adoption of new tools, data driven decision making, and advanced technologies across the packaging value chain. This will also include integration into combination product development processes.
- Develop secondary packaging designs and capabilities to ensure that CSL products meet market, regulatory compliance, quality, and manufacturing requirements. Assess secondary packaging failures to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Deliver meaningful sustainability impact – you will shape initiatives that will ensure we meet global environmental commitments.
- Contribute to a high-performing global supplier network – partner with supply chain and procurement on: supplier partnerships to drive innovation pipelines and ensure resilience and quality of our global packaging supply base.
- Professional knowledge to coach and mentor direct reports and to provide career development for team members.
- Responsible for creating workforce plans, succession plans, and staffing plans for to ensure available talent is maximized to achieve business results for CSL.
Qualifications
- Packaging or other Engineering degree.
- At least 10 years of related experience in secondary packaging within the medical device and or pharmaceutical industry.
- Expertise in serialization and other anticounterfeit measures
- Experience with ISTA and ASTM for packaging and simulated shipping.
- Proven ability to develop strategies and lead improvement projects.
- Excellent communication skills and a track record working in a matrix environment; Influencing/building/promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Strong leadership through a partnership and engagement approach with manufacturing for advancing quality outcomes and operational excellence.
