Job Description

The Business Development Manager reports directly to the Managing Director and is primarily responsible for driving growth in the pet insurance sector by establishing and developing strategic partnerships with veterinary clinics and practices.

Central to success in this role is the ability to build strong and trustworthy relationships. The aim is to clearly communicate the benefits of pet insurance to veterinary clinics, their medical and administrative staff, pet owners, and their pets. This foundation should facilitate the establishment of a sustainable collaboration, where Trupanion's sales and integration solutions are utilized to continuously attract uninsured pet owners.

The Business Development Manager develops a deep understanding of clinic operations and ensures that partner clinics are familiar with Trupanion's web-based and integrated system solutions. These support lead generation, claims submission and processing, and the integration of relevant patient data.

Additionally, the Business Development Manager acts as the main contact for veterinary partners, coordinates internal and external interfaces, and ensures the solution-oriented handling of inquiries and service issues.

Location: We are recruiting candidates nationwide, including but not limited to Berlin, Munich, Dresden, Dsseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Hanover, Cologne, Leipzig, Mannheim, Nuremberg, and Stuttgart. The position requires the willingness to travel regularly within the respective region, depending on the demands of the role.

Main Objectives of the Position:

  • Identification, acquisition, and development of veterinary clinics to achieve agreed sales targets
  • Post-"activation" management of veterinary clinics to maintain consistent sales performance
  • Supporting veterinary clinics to ensure efficient processing and payment of claims

Responsibilities:

  • Efficient planning and execution of visit and contact cycles, including agreed appointments, structured agendas, professional presentations, and clearly defined objectives and outcomes for each partner clinic
  • Participation in internal team meetings and transparent, fact-based reporting on the performance of partner clinics and sales region; providing relevant market and industry information to support strategic and tactical decisions
  • Identification and establishment of at least one central contact person per veterinary clinic, who acts as the responsible contact for all matters related to pet insurance
  • Ensuring complete, accurate, and timely documentation of all activities in the CRM platform for veterinary partners
  • Supporting cross-departmental projects in close collaboration with marketing, sales, and operations
  • Actively nurturing and expanding a reliable network within the veterinary and pet industry
  • Representing the company at veterinary congresses, trade fairs, and other external events
  • Supporting the operational business with issues such as claims processing, inquiries from clinics, and the structured handling of service requests and complaints

Personal Attributes and Experience:

  • Extensive experience in selling to veterinary clinics in the DACH region
  • Successful track record in territory and customer management
  • Valid German driver's license or an EU-recognized equivalent required
  • Goal-oriented with proven success in a fast-paced, dynamic sales environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to propose coherent, structured proposals to influence and secure stakeholder engagement
  • Self-motivated and analytical, with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business requirements
  • Reliable, numerate, and enthusiastic with a strong desire to succeed
  • Organized and capable of managing multiple workflows
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity to overcome challenges and obstacles
  • Home office with the willingness to travel as required by the job
