Job Description Title: Youth Data Analyst Intern - Summer 2026
DBM Classification: NA
Department: Assessment, Research and Evaluation
Salary: $1,200
Employee Group: Temporary/Seasonal
Prepared Date: April, 2026
Reports to: Executive Director of Assessment, Research, and Evaluation
FTE/FLSA Status: N/A - Stipend Position
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
The Assessment, Research, and Evaluation staff supports a model of continuous improvement for the school district by providing data on critical factors that impact educational experiences and achievement, from instruction to professional development and school culture.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are looking for approximately five Youth Data Analyst interns to join our Assessment, Research, and Evaluation team this summer. Students will help us analyze district data through the lens of equity, race, theory, current education research, and their own experience. Students will also be introduced to the research process as it relates to the history of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), data collection methods, and analysis. Much of this summer’s curriculum will be grounded in the University of California-Berkeley's Youth-led Participatory Action Research (YPAR) Hub and Minnesota’s conversations about the opportunity gap in education.
This summer’s project will examine SLP's Portrait of a Learner (ASCEND) and aim to help our teaching community understand these two questions:
How have SLP students been ASCEND-ing?
What else can SLP Schools do to help students ASCEND?
The goal of this internship is to support our school leaders in creating Continuous Improvement Plans (CIP) that center student voice. Students will present their findings on August 18th at our annual Data Advance. Any student interested in this topic is encouraged to apply.
This summer position starts on June 29, 2026. Students may extend their research projects, unpaid, through the 2026‑2027 academic year based on interest.
Interns will earn $1,200 (before tax). Students who have not graduated from high school will earn high school credit and a letter grade based on successful completion, supervisor evaluations, documented hours, and written reflections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop research skills, including studying research methods and analysis, reading academic research, and designing a research project.
Work with aggregate student data.
Conduct a research project in collaboration with a team of youth data analysts.
Present the research project to educators (E‑12) at the Data Advance in August.
Maintain attendance: not absent more than three times unless notified otherwise.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Reliability and attention to detail.
Ability to act independently and as part of a diverse team.
Passion for social justice and improving educational experiences for students from minoritized backgrounds in U.S. public schools.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
