Delta Dental of Wisconsin is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain the data infrastructure and pipelines that enable Delta Dental of Wisconsin to collect, process, and access high quality data at scale. This full‑time hybrid position is located at our corporate headquarters in Stevens Point.
This position will develop robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, architect data solutions, and optimize data systems for performance and reliability. As a technical lead on the team, the Data Engineer will drive the execution of our Data Strategy, support organizational OKRs and Core Metrics, and help DDWI become a more data‑driven organization by ensuring data accessibility, integrity, and governance.
What You'll Do
Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to ingest data from multiple sources
Build and optimize data warehouse and data lake architectures to support analytics and reporting needs
Create and maintain data models that accurately represent business logic and support efficient querying
Write clean, efficient, and well‑documented code following engineering best practices and standards
Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and monitoring to ensure data accuracy and reliability
Develop and maintain data documentation, data dictionaries, and metadata repositories
Collaborate with data analysts, business intelligence teams, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions
Establish and enforce data governance policies, security protocols, and compliance standards (HIPAA, GDPR, etc.)
Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline failures, performance issues, and data quality problems
Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and architectural improvements
Lead the evaluation and implementation of new data technologies, tools, and platforms
Develop automated monitoring and alerting systems for data pipelines and infrastructure
Create technical documentation and provide guidance on data engineering best practices
Mentor junior team members and provide technical leadership on data engineering initiatives
Support strategic data initiatives, including the development of new data products and infrastructure improvements
Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of data engineering practices

Education Bachelors or better in Data Science or related field.
Experience Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Scala, or similar languages for data pipeline development.
Professional experience in data engineering, data architecture or related technical roles (5 years).
Preferred Certification in one or more Microsoft, cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP), or data engineering certificates.
Experience in the insurance industry, especially medical/dental insurance.
