This role would suit candidates with a strong background as a Senior Systems Engineer, Systems Engineering Lead, Systems Engineering Team Lead, Principal Systems Engineer, Lead Systems Engineer, Systems Architect or Technical Lead within a systems engineering
and Defence or Aerospace environment.
Rate: £70.00 per hour Overtime Rate: Hours worked over the standard 37 hours per week, will be paid at ‘time and a quarter’ Location: Bristol Hybrid / Remote working: The role will be onsite 3-4 days per week. A 4 day working week is OK (Monday to Thursday). Duration: 6 Months with very likely extension. Contracts are often ongoing and long-term thereafter. IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella) Interview process: One stage video interview
Command & Control Sub-System Engineering Lead Job Description:
This role is an excellent opportunity to join an exciting project, maturing the design of a key subsystem on a high-profile project aiming to deliver the Royal Navy’s first operational Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) capability in rapid timescales. The role has good visibility and engagement across a range of weapon system design areas, primarily System Design, Software and Algorithms areas.
Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day management, direction and technical leadership (including activity tracking and project reporting) of the multi-functional Common Architecture Team (CAT). Lead the capture, derivation, and refinement of subsystem requirements for the Command & Control subsystem. Work collaboratively with the CAT to deliver the Command & Control sub-system functional architecture. Identify and capture functional risks, opportunities, issues and assumptions and their associated mitigation strategies. Skillset/experience required:
Product development / systems thinking mindset. Excellent stakeholder management skills. Experience across the systems engineering / product development lifecycle, with an emphasis on successful project delivery. Experience of functional design and development. Proactive and self-managing, with an ability to work under pressure to deliver successful outcomes on demanding timescales. Practical knowledge and experience of system engineering processes and tools (e.g. IBM Rhapsody, IBM DOORS, IBM Engineering Workflow Management). Experience designing complex systems in a defence or other highly regulated environment Experience working in or leading a cross-functional engineering teams. Experience developing air defence or LDEW complex weapon systems
