The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.
We are looking for a person who understands the value of public service and wants to help us meet the needs of our citizens. Above all, we are looking for someone that is passionate about IT database administration and support of database users. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator, capable of creating clear written reports, presentations, and documentation, and can establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and matrix support teams. The candidate will resolve complex problems in a timely manner and seek optimum solutions.
As a Senior Oracle Database Administrator supporting Michigan State Police (MSP), the employee is responsible for database structure and design, implementing and maintaining the database environment, and ensuring compliance with security and integrity needs across the database environment. The role includes understanding data architecture and design, installing, configuring, and upgrading database software, maintaining and implementing security practices, reviewing tenable scans, applying patches and security updates, performing backups and restorations, performance optimization and tuning, and providing support to incident responses. The employee plays a key role in ensuring database performance, minimizing downtime, and keeping access and security controls up to date with current policies, procedures, and standards. The goal is to install and maintain the performance of database servers and develop processes for optimizing database security.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
Support the application development teams and vendor-supplied Software-as-a-Service efforts for MSP, including small enhancements, maintenance, and operations for new and existing MSP databases.
Implement and maintain the database environment and ensure compliance with security and integrity needs across the database environment:
Assist data architecture team with database design.
Install, configure, and upgrade database software.
Ensure all databases are current with all patches and updates.
Perform database backups and restores.
Execute database performance optimization and tuning.
Act as application/solution incident response SME.
Provide audit responses.
Liaise with support team and product owner to assist MSP and deliver database connections and data information for reporting or analytics.
Ensure database security and integrity by following and maintaining DTMB security practices, policies, and procedures, and maintaining awareness of industry practices and ensuring appropriate access and availability to data environments.
Perform and coordinate activities required to achieve application and database go-live in production.
To comply with Michigan State Police requirements, the selected candidate must complete and pass a Michigan State Police fingerprint background check prior to beginning employment.

Sign-On Bonus: This position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $2,500. Up to $1,250 is paid upon new hire and the remainder after satisfactory completion of a 12-month probationary period. This does not apply to current state employees.
Location Office location: Dimondale, MI. The position requires relocation for out-of-state applicants. This role offers a hybrid work option requiring two days on-site and three days remote per week.
Education Possession of a Bachelor’s degree with 21 semester (32 term) credits in one or a combination of computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, IT project management, or mathematics.
OR
Possession of an associate’s degree with 16 semester (24 term) credits in computer science or related fields and two years of experience as an application programmer, computer operator, or IT technician. Alternatively, four years of experience as an Information Technology Student Assistant may substitute for the education requirement.
Experience Two years of professional experience equivalent to an Information Technology Infrastructure or Programmer/Analyst P11 level.
