Job Title:
Manager, Data Engineer Location:
Onsite 3 days a week in Irvine, CA Duration:
Until 12/30, expected extension another 6 months
Roles and Responsibilities: Own technical direction, architecture standards, and code quality across globally distributed engineering teams Define and enforce best practices for data modeling, pipeline design, and CI/CD Drive Databricks and cloud platform excellence - hands-on leadership in medallion architecture, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Spark tuning, and AWS services within day-to-day delivery Champion AI-assisted engineering - drive copilot adoption, context engineering, reusable skills libraries, and output validation Measure AI efficiency gains against sprint velocity baselines Mentor engineers, lead code reviews and design discussions and build a culture of knowledge sharing and technical debt ownership Serve as technical interface to client stakeholders - translate business needs into engineering work, provide trade-off transparency, and contribute delivery risk insights to governance reporting 8+ years in data engineering / data platform delivery. Hands-on Databricks, Spark, AWS, Airflow, Python and DBT experience Databricks Professional or Solution Architect certification preferred (Optional) Proven experience leading distributed teams in managed services engagements Requirements:
PySpark, Hive, SQL, Python Cloud Exposure: AWS Exposure to Airflow, Version tools like GitHub/BitBucket Any MPP Data warehouse exposure like SQLDW, Redshift Strong knowledge of Data warehousing concepts Exposure to Databricks Strong communication and client engagement skills Experience with offshore coordination and collaboration Experience with Databricks and Kafka Experience with AI Knowledge of dbt Experience of performance optimization in both Databricks and Kafka Advanced development scenarios within data engineering pipelines Secondary skills
Building an Enterprise Data Modelling in the finance domain, Asset Management preferred (Knowledge of finance across the asset classes like FI, Equity, etc.) DevOps experience preferred AWS DQ
The pay rate is $50 - 60/hour
