ROLE OF THE POSITION This position provides full‑time platform and cloud services (Public, Hosted, SaaS, PaaS), infrastructure engineering, and systems administration within the Cloud and Systems Engineering (SE) group of the Office of Information Technology. The incumbent will principally be responsible for infrastructure, engineering, and administration tasks on our platforms and cloud services supported by SE. Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Cloud and SE, this position works closely with other Enterprise Systems team members, OIT, and distributed IT, including system and database administrators, developers, application specialists, multiple divisions, and business partners. In addition, the incumbent must consult and collaborate effectively with university faculty, business team members, and vendors associated with the systems being administered.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, deploy, and manage scalable, secure, and resilient platform and cloud services within a hybrid environment.
Automate infrastructure provisioning and manage Infrastructure‑as‑Code templates.
Optimize resource usage and ensure compliance with security and governance standards.
Perform platform and services administration, tenant management, version upgrades, patching, performance tuning, system monitoring, maintenance, growth planning, problem analysis, documentation, backups, and recovery.
Support modernization and operational transparency initiatives, collaborating with faculty, business teams, and vendors.
CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONS This position is responsible for maintaining a customer‑focused approach with internal and external stakeholders. The employee will listen to customers, understand their needs, help solve problems, be approachable, respectful, team‑oriented, take ownership of inquiries, provide updates, and be familiar with basic university operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of seven (7) years of related professional experience in systems engineering.
ACCEPTED EQUIVALENCIES FOR DEGREE REQUIREMENT
Four additional years of relevant experience in place of a bachelor’s degree.
Associate’s degree plus two additional years of relevant experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working in a higher education environment.
Ten or more years of related professional experience.
Industry Linux Certification.
Industry Cloud Certification.
Industry Project Management Certification.
Industry Major Service Certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Knowledge – Required
Maintain applications and perform system version upgrades.
Apply patches to ensure stability.
Perform system performance tuning and troubleshooting at a senior level.
Conduct security monitoring and enforcement.
Create and maintain accurate documentation.
Plan, manage, and supervise applications.
Define tasks, milestones, and timelines.
Meet project goals with quality deliverables.
Plan server and client migration between releases.
Research and evaluate new technology.
Integrate new technology into existing topologies.
Improve server performance and availability.
Perform advanced system administration and maximize system security.
Maintain IP addressing, firewalls, routing, switching, server virtualization, account security, hardening, failover, fault tolerance, and multi‑tiered public cloud configurations.
Plan, engineer, implement, deploy, and iterate hybrid infrastructure.
Engineer automation workflows for IaC, including provisioning in a hybrid environment.
Knowledge – Preferred
Expert knowledge of a major cloud provider architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP).
