DCA Warehouse Supervisor

The DCA Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for effectively providing supervision to all the functions operating within DCA. This includes but is not limited to distribution support, volunteer operations, transportation, quality assurance, food processing and food distribution in response to hunger in WA State all while ensuring the organization vision to put health, equity and dignity is at the center of the organizations work.

This position contributes to Northwest Harvests (NWH) mission by ensuring continuity of services by fostering community, promoting food access, compliance with organizational adherence to established guidelines and requirements that relate to each risk along the supply chain continuum, and exercises sound judgement.

In addition, the DCA Warehouse Supervisor serves by cultivating a safe, inclusive environment that includes a high-quality service delivery of the Distribution Center (DC) operations based on the values inherent in Northwest Harvest's mission, the principles of cultural proficiency, and effectively provides supervision and mentorship to the fulfillment and operations staff and ensures a high level of outstanding customer service through the delivery of quality, timeliness, and accuracy in operations while also ensuring the highest compliance standards. This can include but is not limited to day-to-day operations, responding to challenges, providing hands-on supervision, and fostering a collaborative environment that works cross functionally to empower the employees of NWH as well as enhance the lives of our neighbors and plays a vital role in supporting diversity, equity and inclusion to continually be an equitable workplace culture.

Schedule: This position may be required to work occasional off-shift hours as necessary for special events or other duties assigned.

Travel: Be responsive and adaptive to opportunities throughout Washington (WA). This can include but is not limited to local travel and occasional travel to Eastern and Central WA.

Responsibilities:

Supervision

  • Works with all DCs in Supply Chain to plan and conduct accurate and timely completion of day-to-day operations to ensure quality assurance is met in accordance with NWH work culture and supply chain requirements and maintains all documentation related to the processes of standard operating procedures
  • Supervises DCA operations by providing direction, guidance, and mentorship to DCA Supply Chain staff; to foster organizational growth and success
  • Provides input to DCA Operations Manager regarding the warehouse associate positions. This includes but is not limited to performance feedback, performance concerns, reviewing and updating of job descriptions, coordination of work assignments and involvement in the hiring process for the DCA Supply Chain team
  • Establishes and maintains clear areas of individual responsibilities and performance expectations
  • Ensures team cohesion and seamless collaboration to support NWH work culture in Supply Chain and other departments
  • Develops a culture that embraces the Cross-Training Program for each area of responsibility to drive performance, engagement, and enthuse the team to better results by collaborating with leaders to create and monitor a set of key performance metrics that is displayed prominently and updated monthly
  • Be an active team player, collaborating with other Supply Chain leaders with continuous improvement of operations
  • Assists in the delivery of relevant training, including but not limited to training staff in using proper equipment techniques

Acts as a partner to the DCA Operations Manager and the Transportation Manager and liaise between Northwest Harvest's DC and Finance operations relative to month end reporting for Northwest Harvest's DC transportation

Distribution and Logistics

  • Coordinate with the Transportation Manager and Drivers with the scheduling of shipments to and from the warehouse, and distribution throughout Washington state
  • Monitors and maintains the storage and usage of radio frequency devices (RFD) during job assignments to ensure accurate and timely inventory control
  • Practices and understands the execution of Industry Standard replenishment (i.e., picking and loading)
  • Respond to customer or shipper questions and complaints regarding storage and distribution services
  • Review invoices, work orders, reports, forecasts to estimate peak delivery periods and to issue work assignments
  • Supports, and provides input in the improvement of productivity standards to meet organizational goals
  • Serves as a pro-active and creative thought partner around needs for volunteer operations at other site locations to encourage growth and continuous improvement
  • Support and ensure active engagement of staff with Transportation team, Food Access Network (FAN) department and Community Markets.

Inventory and Food Safety

  • Supervises and monitors inventory by ensuring it is returned to storage and pick location before and after processing
  • Support the efforts to reconcile & report out to the Leadership Team as it pertains to Northwest Harvest's full physical inventory, both mid-year and end of year
  • Coach the team to have responsibility for inventory control and support them on developing methods to conduct weekly cycle counts and/or other methods
  • Support and monitor facilities related concerns for Northwest Harvest's DC, be a resource for facility concerns at other locations
  • Provides input to the DCA Operations Manager regarding inventory close, item card challenges, etc. to find resolution and maintain timelines
  • Provides input to the creation of processes alongside the DCA Operations Manager that encourage continual learning in NWH efficiencies to increase turnover rate in the warehouse, reducing on-hand inventory and inventory aging
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain leaders with development and adherence to NWH Food Safety Program

Worker Safety and Compliance

  • Acts as a mentor and supports the site safety team and reviews and responds to all incidents, injuries, and employee safety concerns; reviews and responds with meaningful, impactful corrective actions
  • Monitors compliance and stays current on all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) guidelines as well as United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Washington State department of Agriculture (WSDA)and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and guidelines
  • Ensures the effective utilization of drivers, equipment, and tools to maximize service and productivity while remaining compliant with state and federal regulations and organization policies and procedures
  • Inspects physical conditions of operations, vehicle fleets, or equipment and order testing and shipping products or materials
  • Ensures routes are adequately always covered and advise DCA Operations Manager and/or Transportation of any concerns
  • Determines the best strategy for use of all rolling stock, including vans, and other non-CDL equipment

Performs other duties assigned by the DCA Operations Manager

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 5 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds with an assisted lift or in a team lift environment consistently and repeatedly, with reasonable accommodation when needed. The employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; balance; bend and reach with hands and arms; use feet to operate foot pedal operation; and talk or hear. Occasionally required to climb ladders, sit, stoop, kneel, squat, crouch, or crawl.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of the real-life experience, education, and training listed below, which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position.

Successful completion of a background check is required.
