Role Summary The Manager, Software Engineering oversees a team of Software Engineers, Business Systems Analysts, and QA Software Engineers, guiding enterprise projects from initiation to production readiness. This role sets future direction for software design, promotes migration to leading‑edge technology, and leads cross‑functional project teams to deliver quality solutions. Responsibilities Creates and manages complex project plans, leveraging resources, managing scope, troubleshooting issues, and providing timely resolutions. Provides technical guidance balancing deadline delivery with long‑term strategic objectives. Monitors and directs software development to meet architecture standards including database structures, code standards, reusable components, security, performance, and system interfaces. Participates in cross‑functional project teams (internal and external) to deliver solutions that meet client business requirements. Supports development, testing, and production readiness; oversees continuous integration and automation; and identifies opportunities to automate current processes/solutions. Assesses legacy systems and recommends modern solutions using latest software and technologies. Creates and implements action plans to mitigate risks, resolves issues with stakeholders, manages conflicting priorities, and leads teams in SDLC artifact creation. Develops overall vision, goals, objectives, and strategies for the Software Engineering team in alignment with the IT Business Unit’s objectives. Provides day‑to‑day management, coordination, and supervision of software engineering activities. Mentors team members, offers constructive feedback, develops and trains employees, and promotes optimal performance with corrective action when needed. Builds solid working relationships across cross‑functional areas and maintains documentation as required. Provides hands‑on design guidance and stays up‑to‑date with emerging IT trends, best practices, and industry standards. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages assigned staff, directs and coordinates the unit, and evaluates performance in accordance with policies and laws. Conducts interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, rewarding, disciplining, complaint resolution, and problem solving of staff. Supports and enforces company policies and procedures fairly and consistently, taking corrective action when necessary. Client Responsibilities Acts as an internal and external client‑facing professional with excellent customer service, listening, verbal, and written skills. Manages difficult or emotional client situations, responds promptly, solicits feedback, and meets client commitments. Qualifications BS/BA degree or equivalent plus 5+ years of experience. 1 year of subject‑matter expertise in relevant areas. 3+ years of supervisory experience; 4 years of MedImpact experience and an internal/external leadership training program may substitute for supervisory experience. Solid working knowledge of MS Office Suite, MS SQL, Azure, Power BI, JIRA, web services (SOAP/REST), and application development technologies such as Java, Spring, JPA/Hibernate, JSF, Tomcat, JBOSS, IBM Websphere, AngularJS, and Liferay. Experience with B2B integration (Azure Data Factory, Power BI, MS SQL Server), job scheduling (UC4), secure file transfer (Axway MFT, Informatica MFT), and industry standards (ASC X12, HIPAA EDI, NCPDP, HL7). Familiarity with BPM concepts, IBM BPM, and portal standards (JSR168/286). Strong communication, presentation, analytical, and decision‑making skills; self‑motivated, independent, and capable of managing competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment. Proficiency in manual and automated unit testing of data‑driven backend applications with high transaction throughput. Experience using agile methodology, quality management, and metrics to drive process improvement. Mathematical skills applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to communicate effectively with managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must provide adequate support to internal clients and maintain coordination with stakeholders. Working Hours Exempt position requiring flexibility to work beyond traditional hours, including nights, weekends, or holidays as needed. Core business hours Monday‑Friday 8:00a.m.–5:00p.m.; hours may change to meet business needs. Travel No travel required; attendance may be required at local conferences and meetings.
