Job Goal: To plan, coordinate, and supervise the operations of assigned departments in a manner that enhances customer service, promotes overall efficiency, and maximizes the educational and financial opportunities available in the school system. Assist the Superintendent in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the best possible educational programs and services.

Reports To: Superintendent

Qualifications Requirements:

  1. Valid L-5 certification, minimum.
  2. Master's degree in education or related field.
  3. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in district-level leadership within the Berrien County School System.
  4. Ability to communicate well, both written and oral, with staff, co-workers, parents, and community.
  5. Physical demands - must be able to stand, sit, and walk the majority of the day; must be able to lift and/or carry twenty (20) pounds; job requires some stooping and bending.

Job Duties:

  1. Supports the decisions of the Superintendent and the Board of Education.
  2. Maintains a working relationship with the Superintendent built upon trust and loyalty.
  3. Communicates a sense of unity with the Superintendent in conversation and action.
  4. Assumes responsibility of the total system operation in the absence of the Superintendent.
  5. Prepares state and federal reports as required.
  6. Coordinates compilation of reports and other activities required to insure system compliance with state standards, and other accrediting agencies as approved by the Superintendent and Board of Education.
  7. Attends Board meetings and prepares such reports for the Board as the Superintendent may request.
  8. Assists in the determination of types of programs needed by the schools and makes appropriate recommendations.
  9. Prepare drafts of needed Board policies and administrative rules for the Superintendent's review and action.
  10. Works with the superintendent to review policies periodically to ensure continued compliance with state and federal law, case law, or other mandates as necessary.
  11. Works with various department directors to assure efficiency and effectiveness of all operations and services.
  12. Helps interpret programs, philosophy, and policies of the district to staff and other interested persons.
  13. Maintains liaison with social, professional, civic, volunteer, and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the schools.
  14. Serves as liaison between area colleges and technical schools.
  15. Plays a significant leadership role in fostering professional growth and building of staff morale throughout the system.
  16. Presents and interprets the system's educational program to the Board, parents, and the community through meeting groups at the local colleges, parent meetings, civic groups, Board meetings, etc.
  17. Evaluates the job performance of designated personnel.
  18. Assists in obtaining data required by the State Department of Education or other state/federal agencies.
  19. Monitor and oversee all functions of departments to which assigned.
  20. Keeps informed of the latest trends, developments, and products in all areas of the division.
  21. Attend approved training sessions, staff development activities, and required meetings.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment: Position works 230 days.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent
