Location San Francisco, CA. In‑office or hybrid work model. Position Overview The team builds and maintains the infrastructure that powers Atlas Search, a multi‑cloud search service built on the MongoDB Query Language. The platform deploys and monitors search deployments, providing a highly scalable and observable system for customers and engineers. This role involves designing, building, testing, and maintaining industrial‑strength backend software and automation for the search service. Key Responsibilities Contribute to the design, implementation, and support of projects that improve the scalability of Atlas Search. Collaborate with a team that prioritizes sound technical decision‑making and builds systems our customers love. Own subsystems and lead projects, providing input on the team’s roadmap and system architecture. Qualifications 2+ years of hands‑on experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining industrial‑strength backend software. Experience developing distributed systems and multithreaded applications. Familiarity with public cloud platforms, distributed infrastructure, and metric‑based development. Experience with at least one modern statically typed programming language; interest in working with Java. Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills and enthusiasm for collaborating closely with colleagues. Growth mindset and desire to learn quickly through taking on challenges, reflecting on outcomes, and incorporating feedback. Strong sense of ownership over work, from initial design to production maintenance. Success Measures In 3 months: solid high‑level understanding of the team’s work and operations; contributions to an existing project with several small improvements or bug fixes. In 6 months: reviewing code and project designs; active participant in team meetings. In 12 months: thorough understanding of the systems owned by the team and having led a small project; proposed small improvements to code, product, or team processes. Technical Skills AWS, Java, MongoDB Atlas, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, MongoDB Query Language. Compensation Base salary range for U.S. based candidates: $122,000 – $209,000 USD.
