Manager In Training (MIT)

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Pay: $20-24 per hour

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Flexible schedule required including evenings, weekends, and holidays

About The Role

The Manager in Training (MIT) program is a structured leadership development program designed to prepare candidates for a Store Manager position. During this approximately 12-week program, you will gain hands-on experience across all aspects of store operations, leadership, and performance management.

This role is ideal for individuals who are motivated to grow into a leadership position and are eager to learn how to run a successful retail operation.

What You'll DoLeadership & Staff Management
  • Support recruiting, training, and supervising store staff
  • Learn scheduling, payroll review, and employee relations practices
  • Provide coaching and support to team members and program participants
Store Operations
  • Learn donation intake, product sorting, pricing, and merchandising
  • Support strategies to meet production and sales goals
  • Assist with maintaining store appearance, safety, and compliance standards
Customer Experience
  • Deliver excellent customer service and create a positive shopping environment
  • Support customer engagement and retention efforts
  • Model positive interactions for store staff
Financial Management
  • Learn cash handling procedures and daily deposit processes
  • Support inventory tracking and loss prevention practices
  • Assist with maintaining store operations within budget
Communication & Reporting
  • Review daily sales and production metrics
  • Communicate with store leadership and regional partners
  • Support reporting and operational updates
Training Provided
  • Structured 12-week training program with hands-on experience
  • Development in store leadership, operations, and financial management
  • Regular progress reviews and feedback checkpoints

What You Need

Required

Education & Experience

  • 1 to 2 years of retail, leadership, or supervisory experience preferred
  • Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong leadership potential and ability to build relationships
  • Effective communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to learn retail operations, sales, and production processes
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including early/late shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Basic computer proficiency including POS systems and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly

Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must meet motor vehicle record requirements
  • Ability to complete bank deposits as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands, handle, feel, hear, and talk
  • Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds

Work Environment

  • Retail store and warehouse environment
  • Moderate noise level
  • May be dusty with temperature fluctuations
  • Extended periods of standing required

Travel

  • May be required to travel to other store locations for training
