Assistant Controller

The Assistant Controller oversees the compliance functions for multiple entities and properties, including debt covenants, escrow reimbursements, regulatory and municipality requirements. Assist in year-end closing and the preparation of precise and timely financial information to executive management, regulatory and taxing authorities, lenders, and investors.
Qualification RequirementsAn experienced Accounting Professional who has 10+ years of accounting experience with the ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to a variety of constituencies in simple, understandable terms.
Minimum Qualifications- BS in Accounting. CPA or MBA is a plus.
- Minimum 10 Years of Experience preferably within a real estate firm
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Public accounting experience is a plus
- CPA with working partnership tax knowledge
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Knowledge and experience using Yardi
- Strong detail orientation, strong work ethic, sense of urgency, positive attitude
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong management skills.
Staff of one employee includes: one administrator.
Essential FunctionsMonthly:
- Oversee the RRA compliance employee, assess loan compliance reporting, and supervise the loan reserve process.
- Ensure compliance with fee arrangements as documented between investment entities and the management company.
- Maintain internal policies and controls.
- Review and maintain internal company debt obligations.
- Perform treasury functions as required.
- Manage commercial draw process with lending institutions for new developments.
- Provide support and management of internal system platforms including Yardi, and Microsoft Office (Access & Visual Basics).
Annually:
- Assist in the preparation of the annual property and management company budgets (fee schedule, escrows, mortgage, insurance, and expense reimbursement management).
- Assist with investor reporting via investor portal.
- Review annual work papers for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and maintain a strong working knowledge of partnership taxation, especially as applicable to the real estate industry.
- Assist third party contractors in the property tax appeal process.
- Work with our outside accounting firm in the preparation of federal and state tax returns and the generation of the personal financial statements of key investors.
As Needed:
- Provide and prepare property level information for financing and investment sales.
- Prepare ad?hoc reports as required by executive management.
