Associate, Design Position Summary
The Associate, Architectural Design assists in managing and coordinating architectural design work for newbuild department projects. The role collaborates with external architectural, interior design, and consultancy firms worldwide, reviewing design drawings and FF&E materials to recommend decisions and provide innovative solutions throughout the design process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate with the FF&E design team to manage multiple projects from design through all stages of FF&E production and installation coordination.
Ensure space, scale, and furniture selections align with design intent and RCG standards.
Assist the FF&E design manager with design and development of custom carpets, furniture, and architectural materials.
Select and specify FF&E catalogued pieces and custom items relevant to the design brief.
Review and track all FF&E submittals for each project.
Coordinate with purchasing/procurement agents for specified furniture and accessories.
Participate in furniture reviews, factory visits, and practicality reviews.
Apply FF&E design guidelines & standards, CADD & drawing standards, and contract references to ensure timely delivery of project materials.
Work collaboratively, innovatively, and proactively in a forward‑thinking environment that integrates design and operations disciplines.
Commit to learning and growth for oneself and others.
Occasionally attend meetings with sponsors (clients).
Maintain client/consultant relationships, collect, compare, and store statistical information, and create presentations for design management.
Demonstrate cost consciousness and balance cost control needs.
Support shop drawing review processes and yard/contractor coordination meetings and inspections during the newbuilding process.
Take ownership of all assignments.
Occasionally accept assignments for design concepts, space planning, design development, and drawings & details of designated venues.
Represent the department professionally, demonstrating high motivation, efficiency, and organization.
Apply time‑management skills and prioritize tasks as directed by supervisors.
Manage multiple projects and tasks under various team members, maintaining focus and strong organizational ability.
Perform any other job‑related duties as assigned by supervisors or management.
Qualifications
Hospitality or cruise ship design experience; cruise ship expertise is a must.
1–3 years of FF&E specialist experience preferred.
Up‑to‑date knowledge of social and hospitality trends.
Highly creative, resourceful, and self‑confident.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Understanding of materiality, space, and scale with the ability to sketch.
Knowledge of furniture, fabrics, accessories, drapery, decorative lighting, and other architectural finishes.
Positive attitude with the ability to adapt to a fast‑paced, dynamic, deadline‑oriented environment.
Strong prioritization and time‑management skills.
Proficiency in AutoCAD.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Physical Demands
Ability to travel internationally or domestically 10% of the time at minimum.
The physical demands described represent those required to perform essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Job functions require regular sitting, standing, writing, reviewing, typing reports, compiling data, operating a PC, communicating, listening, and assessing information.
Employee may move around the office complex, travel to other office locations, and lift, push, pull, or move 20–25 pounds.
The work environment includes office and off‑site locations, domestic and international travel, and shipboard functions.
High noise levels and reduced air conditions may be present when visiting shipyard construction sites, shipboard, or off‑site locations.
