Mechanical Engineer – Data Centers
This is a full-time exempt (40+ hours/week), hybrid role located in Austin, TX; San Francisco, CA; New York, NY; or Seattle, WA.
Summary We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and deployment of next‑generation, AI‑optimized data center infrastructure. This role will be responsible for the end‑to‑end development of mechanical systems supporting high‑density computing environments, from concept development and analytical modeling through construction and deployment.
The successful candidate will contribute to the creation of scalable, modular design standards that enable rapid deployment of mission‑critical facilities globally. Working closely with internal stakeholders and external engineering partners, this role will help drive innovative cooling solutions, optimize facility performance, and support the continued evolution of advanced AI infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of mechanical systems for high‑density, mission‑critical data center facilities
Develop and maintain modular mechanical design templates to support standardized and repeatable facility deployments
Support mechanical engineering efforts from initial concept development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and project completion
Serve as a technical liaison between internal teams and external consultants, contractors, and engineering partners
Ensure mechanical infrastructure integrates effectively with high‑density cooling and electrical systems
Perform engineering analysis and evaluate system performance to support design decisions and capacity planning
Utilize Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling to evaluate thermal performance and optimize cooling system effectiveness
Develop innovative, scalable solutions that balance technical requirements, deployment speed, and supply chain considerations
Review engineering deliverables and ensure compliance with project standards, performance requirements, and design objectives
Support continuous improvement of mechanical design standards, specifications, and best practices
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, structural, architectural, and operations personnel
Manage technical relationships with external consultants and hold project partners accountable for quality and performance expectations
Our Ideal Candidate
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
5–8 years of experience designing mechanical systems for data centers, mission‑critical facilities, or large‑scale industrial infrastructure
Experience supporting the design and deployment of cooling systems for high‑density computing environments
Strong understanding of:
Chilled water systems
Heat rejection systems
Data center cooling architectures
Mechanical infrastructure supporting mission‑critical operations
Demonstrated experience with high‑density cooling technologies, including:
Liquid‑to‑chip cooling
Immersion cooling systems
Proficiency with Revit and Building Information Modeling (BIM) platforms
Experience performing CFD modeling and thermal performance analysis
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and external engineering partners
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced project environment
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience supporting hyperscale data center developments
Familiarity with modular or prefabricated infrastructure deployments
Experience developing engineering standards, templates, and repeatable design methodologies
Knowledge of capacity planning and infrastructure scaling strategies
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering efforts across large project portfolios
Familiarity with AI‑focused, high‑performance computing environments
