As a member of the Wayfair Industrial Engineering team, you will identify, design, and execute high-impact projects that scale our ability to deliver the perfect order. You will own the optimization of building layouts, design advanced Material Handling Equipment (MHE) systems, and partner closely with cross-functional operations teams. From running ROI analyses and drafting RFPs to managing vendor procurement, your work will directly drive the next generation of Wayfair's supply chain technology – including hardware, software, and supporting technology.
What You’ll Do
Design & Layout Optimization: Create and update detailed 2D/3D facility layouts using AutoCAD to integrate conveyors, shelving, robotics, and workstations seamlessly.
Vendor & Project Management: Manage vendor relationships through the design, proposal, and RFP processes, ensuring project timelines and deliverables are strictly met.
Financial & Data Analytics: Perform rigorous ROI analyses (Capital vs. Labor savings) to justify engineering solutions and support data‑driven procurement.
Change Management: Guide site leadership through process and equipment validation, including creating technical documentation, tracking performance metrics, and delivering training.
System Implementation: Lead the deployment of automated material handling systems (e.g., sortation, robotics, conveyors) to maximize warehouse capacity and throughput.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the engineering liaison between local site leadership and remote business partners through clear, structured communication.
Required Travel: Up to 20‑30%
What You’ll Need
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience: 2+ years of hands‑on experience in MHE design, application engineering, or supply chain implementation.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD, familiarity using 3D modeling tools (e.g., Demo3D, SketchUp), and SQL to drive analytical problem‑solving.
Domain Expertise: Strong understanding of distribution center operations, racking design, and automated conveyor/sortation/robotics systems.
Core Competencies: Detail‑oriented mindset with excellent time‑management skills and the ability to balance multiple overlapping projects.
