Outside Sales Representative – Home Security This role involves proactively introducing, promoting, and selling Cox Home Security services and ancillary products to residential customers. The incumbent drives the entire sales process—prospecting, in‑home consultations, closing, and post‑installation follow‑up—within an assigned territory, working independently while using a private vehicle for extensive local travel.
Primary Responsibilities
Sell Cox Home Security services and ancillary products door‑to‑door to residential customers, meeting or exceeding sales goals.
Identify new residential prospects through cold calling, subdivision audits, neighborhood remarketing, and street‑sheet analysis.
Cold‑call new and existing customers (phone and door‑to‑door) to sell or upgrade services and ensure satisfaction with Cox products.
Meet prospective customers to gather detailed information on their home security needs and qualify prospects.
Deliver sales presentations and demonstrations, using solution‑selling techniques to influence one‑call purchases.
Educate customers on the use, billing, and features of installed Cox Home Security products.
Participate in team sales blitzes, conversions, and new product releases.
Negotiate pricing, products, promotions, and terms with prospective customers.
Track orders and serve as the primary customer contact throughout the sales and installation cycle, keeping customers informed of progress and resolving issues.
Build and maintain relationships with developers, realtors, insurance agents, contractors, and builders to promote Cox Home Security offerings.
Pursue referrals at time of sale, engage in networking groups, present at homeowners association meetings, and conduct informational sessions at Cox retail stores.
Maintain an internal network for problem referrals and order processing.
Communicate special conditions or extenuating circumstances to managers and technicians to ensure smooth installation and high‑quality customer service.
Provide input to the Cox Home Security Manager regarding new product releases and changes.
Initiate and document new account information by entering orders into ICOMS.
Document and communicate installation designs for installers.
Plan and organize daily work routes within the territory.
Schedule installation appointments as needed.
Maintain and submit regular expense and sales activity reports using designated software.
Obtain credit approvals as required through established processes.
Ensure product pricing aligns with corporate structures.
Document contract information in Docusign and provide copies to customers for approval.
Attend job‑related training, team meetings, refresher sessions, and service updates to enhance product knowledge and sales skills.
Minimum Qualifications
One or more years of outside or field sales experience with quotas and cold calling experience preferred.
Required certifications and licenses as mandated by state and municipal laws.
At least six months of computer experience in a work or non‑work setting.
Willingness to work weekends and nights.
Strong adaptability, learning agility, assignment management, relationship building, customer service delivery, formal presentation skills, high‑impact communication, results orientation, continuous learning, PC proficiency, quality orientation, sales disposition, self‑management, self‑motivation, self‑discipline, technical aptitude, and trustworthiness.
Preferred Qualifications
BS/BA degree in a related discipline strongly desired.
Experience in the telecommunications industry desired.
Two years of outside or field home security sales experience with quotas and system troubleshooting experience.
Knowledge of the local market and local contacts.
