Job Summary
Mechanical Design Engineer to produce individual designs and document new products and product line enhancements, working closely with manufacturing, quality personnel, and other stakeholders. Responsibilities
Produce individual designs and documents for new products and product line enhancements, including material selection. Work with manufacturing to determine the best manufacturing process for existing and new products. Ensure all quality aspects of product design and manufacturing are met by applying engineering principles under minimal supervision. Perform in‑depth investigations into materials, processes, and products as assigned by management. Utilize sound engineering principles to design new products or modify existing ones based on customer requests, sales requests, manufacturing personnel, or service team input. Determine design choices that minimize labor and overhead costs in collaboration with manufacturing. Collaborate with other engineering designers to review form, fit, and function of product designs using SolidWorks. Develop engineering detail and assembly documentation to support tooling quotations, manufacturing, and manufacturing preparation. Request prototypes from outside suppliers or internal manufacturing for performance, concept evaluation, and reliability testing. Assemble prototype product using power and hand tools; lift/move parts weighing up to 40 pounds during engineering evaluations. Initiate and coordinate development programs that increase cost efficiency and smooth workflow for manufacturing, including testing and analysis of materials, processes, and prototypes. Analyze competitive products by evaluating materials, manufacturing processes, product performance, and packaging. Contact and, when necessary, visit customers, suppliers, and agencies to obtain information related to existing products, purchased parts, material selections, or manufacturing processes. May be asked to travel and provide engineering field support for the customer base and/or dealer/agent network, maintaining optimum quality customer service. Support Fogg customers and the Sales Department on project control specifications. Answer engineering customer service telephone calls. Assist the QC Department when additional assistance is needed due to production demands. Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent; a minimum of five years of engineering product line responsibilities is preferred. Minimum of five years of project engineering experience; some supervisory experience preferred. Proficient in SolidWorks and CAD. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. PC/computer skills, including word processing, data analysis, and spreadsheet applications. Ability to work in a team‑oriented environment. Benefits
