About Nord Quantique
At Nord Quantique, we strive to build impactful technology by relentlessly pushing our understanding of quantum science. We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, innovators, builders, and enthusiasts on a mission to make quantum computing a reality. Our quantum processors are designed to reduce errors in quantum computation to facilitate long-term scaling toward fully-fledged quantum computers. We believe it is our responsibility to deliver this transformative technology for the greater good of society.
Located at the heart of the beautiful Eastern Townships region in the province of Quebec, Canada, we develop our technology in the vibrant quantum ecosystem of Sherbrooke. Leaning on more than a decade of vertical integration of quantum hardware, we are leveraging a comprehensive pool of quantum technology and micro-electronic infrastructure to deploy our quantum computing technology
Salary : $91 600 - $105 000
Vacation: 5 weeks per year
Benefits : Group insurance (including dental care), virtual care, lifestyle spending account (all available after 3 months of service)
As we scale the size and complexity of our quantum processors and supporting infrastructure, we are seeking a resourceful and driven Mechanical Systems Assembly Professional to join our Team.
In this role, you will lead the development, optimization, and scaling of assembly processes for our 3D Quantum Processing Units (QPUs). You will be responsible for translating QPU designs into robust, repeatable, and scalable assembly processes that support both R&D builds and future production needs.
Your mission is to own the end-to-end assembly process for Nord Quantique’s quantum processors, from process development and tooling design through technician training and production readiness.
You will be responsible of the assembly methodology, build sequences, tooling and fixture strategies, handling and integration procedures, and in-process metrology required to achieve demanding precision requirements. Success in this role will be measured by your ability to establish reliable and repeatable assembly processes, improve assembly first pass yield and throughput, and ensure the consistent integration of increasingly complex quantum hardware systems.
This is a highly hands-on engineering role focused on assembly excellence. You will spend a significant amount of time developing assembly methods, assembling QPU hardware, troubleshooting integration issues, and training technicians. A key objective of this role is to transform expert assembly practices into robust, scalable processes that can be consistently executed by trained technicians.
You will collaborate closely with internal teams, as well as external partners, to develop and execute assembly processes that enable the next generation of scalable quantum processors.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize assembly procedures and standards for the Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) and associated subsystems in a cleanroom and controlled-environment settings.
- Design, specify, and implement assembly tooling, fixtures, workstations, and process controls to support both R&D and production builds.
- Establish best practices for assembly, handling and integration of quantum hardware components.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, training programs for assembly technicians, assembly procedures, inspection plans, and build records.
- Define and monitor key process performance metrics, including assembly yield, cycle time and throughput.
- Perform root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to assembly defects, yield losses, and process variability.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
This is a dynamic role within a fast-paced, research-driven environment, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to the advancement of scalable quantum hardware.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building more than designing. You will become the technical owner of QPU assembly at Nord Quantique, responsible for developing the processes, tooling, training systems, and quality standards that enable reliable and scalable QPU assembly manufacturing.
Education and experience requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- 4+ years experience in developing assembly processes in an advanced hardware production environment like high-precision electromechanical, semiconductor, photonic, or advanced technology products.
Sought expertise and knowledge:
- Proven experience developing and optimizing assembly processes for high-precision electro-mechanical, semiconductor, photonic, or advanced technology products.
- Experience designing, specifying, or implementing assembly tooling, fixtures, workstations, and process controls to improve build quality and repeatability.
- Knowledge of assembly best practices, including process validation, root-cause analysis, quality control, continuous improvement, and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Ability to create clear manufacturing documentation, including assembly procedures, work instructions, inspection plans, and build records within regulated or technical environments.
Sought profile:
- Great sense of autonomy and dependability
- Willingness to learn and explore new concepts
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and partner facilities.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills focused on achieving company objectives
- Team-oriented mindset with a focus on cooperation and knowledge sharing within the team
