We are seeking experienced Controller to join our expanding team in North and South Carolina. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in the event rental industry, a passion for leadership, and a commitment to exceptional customer service.

The Controller is responsible for hands-on and overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance functions for a private equity-backed organization. This role plays a critical part in providing accurate and timely financial information to management, lenders, investors, and ownership while supporting strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and value-creation efforts. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical accounting expertise, experience in a fast-paced PE environment, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Position Summary

The Controller is responsible for hands-on and overseeing all accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance functions for a private equity-backed organization. This role plays a critical part in providing accurate and timely financial information to management, lenders, investors, and ownership while supporting strategic initiatives, acquisitions, and value-creation efforts. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical accounting expertise, experience in a fast-paced PE environment, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and interactions with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders.
  • Support private equity ownership reporting requirements, including monthly financial packages, covenant reporting, and board presentation materials.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial analyses.
  • Lead accounting integration efforts related to mergers, acquisitions, and business combinations, including purchase accounting under ASC 805.
  • Maintain lease accounting compliance under ASC 842.
  • Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and recommend operational improvements to enhance profitability and cash flow.
  • Monitor working capital metrics and support initiatives to improve liquidity and operational efficiency.
  • Manage and develop accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with ERP implementations, system enhancements, and process automation initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • CPA designation required.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a private equity-backed company required.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit management.
  • Experience with acquisition accounting, including ASC 805 purchase accounting.
  • Experience with lease accounting under ASC 842.
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Multi-location operations experience.
  • Event Rental Industry a plus.
  • Track record of successfully integrating acquired businesses and improving accounting processes.
