Job Title: Coordinator - Safety, Training and Compliance Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Director of Transportation Pay Grade: AUX 6/226 days Department: Transportation Date Revised: May 2026 Primary Purpose: Responsible for the coordination, implementation, and oversight of all transportation safety, training, and compliance programs. Ensures all drivers and monitors meet federal, state, and district requirements while supporting a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous development in alignment with the Ennis ISD Transportation Department goals. This position works closely with the Director and Assistant Director to develop staff capacity, maintain regulatory compliance, and support safe, efficient transportation of scholars. QualificationsEducation/CertificationHigh School Diploma or GED required Valid Texas CDL (Class B or higher) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements Valid DOT Medical Card Valid TEA School Bus Certification
Driver Trainer Certification preferred or ability to obtain within designated timeframe Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record Special Knowledge/SkillsKnowledge of FMCSA, USDOT, TEA, DPS, and school transportation regulations Knowledge of driver training methods and adult learning techniques Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills Ability to coach, mentor, and develop staff Ability to investigate accidents and respond to incidents Proficiency in Google Workspace and standard office systems Ability to maintain accurate records and compliance documentation Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills Ability to communicate clearly in both written and verbal formats ExperienceMinimum of 2 years school bus driving experience preferred Major Responsibilities and DutiesSafety & ComplianceMaintain compliance with all federal, state, and district transportation regulations Monitor and track driver credentials including:
CDL and endorsements DOT physicals School Bus Certification Required training and certifications
Administer and monitor random drug and alcohol testing program for safety-sensitive staff Conduct initial and annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Clearing House reviews Maintain complete and accurate compliance records for all transportation personnel Notify staff of upcoming certification and credential expirations Training & Driver DevelopmentCoordinate and implement driver training programs in accordance with DPS, TEA, and federal guidelines Conduct classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction for new and existing drivers Coordinate CDL testing with DPS or approved third-party testers Plan and deliver required in-service and scheduled monthly trainings for all personnel Conduct annual driver proficiency evaluations, including on-road assessments Provide ongoing coaching, retraining, and performance support Assist with onboarding and training of new hires Safety Program & Incident ResponseAssist in creation, upkeep and administration of the department safety program Respond to and investigate bus accidents and incidents Participate in accident/incident review processes Prepare reports and documentation for district administration and risk management Provide corrective training and follow-up as needed Operations SupportCoordinate with Fleet and Dispatch to ensure availability of buses for training and testing Assist with driver and monitor selection, interviews, and evaluations Maintain training records and documentation for all personnel Track and maintain data related to training, certifications, and safety performance Assist leadership team with department operations as needed Professional Development & Leadership SupportWork with Director and Assistant Director to support staff development initiatives Assist in developing and delivering department-wide professional development Promote a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement Model safety, professionalism and ethical behavior in all interactions Supervisory ResponsibilitiesProvides oversight and direction to drivers and monitors as it relates to safety, training, and compliance Working ConditionsEquipment UsedStandard office equipment School bus Two-way radio Safety equipment (flares, reflective signs, fire extinguisher) Physical DemandsFrequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and driving Moderate lifting up to 50 pounds Repetitive hand motions and keyboard use Environmental FactorsExposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes Frequent interruptions and irregular hours District-wide travel required Mental DemandsMaintain emotional control under stress Ability to respond to high-pressure situations and emergencies Disclaimer The foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this position and are not an exhaustive list of all duties.
