Working Title: Student Data Analyst Pay: $15-16 Hourly Campus: Main - Albuquerque, NM Department: Geospatial and Population Studies (069D) Employment Type: Student Employment Student Type: Student Employment Status: Non-Exempt Background Check Required: No For Best Consideration Date: 7/31/2026 Position Summary: WE ARE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION FROM ALL STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF WORK STUDY AWARD The University of New Mexico's Center for Geospatial and Population Studies (GPS) maintains New Mexico's traffic crash database for the New Mexico Department of Transportation and serves as the New Mexico State Demographer's Office. We assist New Mexico government agencies, lawmakers and the public in making data-driven decisions by providing impartial data and objective analysis. GPS provides UNM students with real-life job skills that will give them a strong, competitive advantage over their peers after graduation. We are seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated students from any degree program to contribute their expertise in areas such as data analysis, data entry, verification, geocoding, and publishing of traffic crash data. In addition to providing support and routine maintenance of the traffic crash database, students will have ample opportunities to expand their analysis or programming skills solving real-world problems. GPS is looking to hire entry-level Student Data Analysts and train them in data collection, GIS, and data analysis work using traffic crash data. Whether you are new to programming or just starting your degree, that's okay, as we can provide onsite training in a variety of languages and programs, including SAS, SQL, and VBA, along with statistical data analysis, data processing and integration, trend analysis, data entry and cleaning, GIS services, web mapping, and geospatial analysis. This position requires an organized individual with a strong initiative to learn, attention to detail, and excellent time management skills. In addition to building a marketable resume other jobs perks include flexible work hours and regular pay increases with marked progress. Minimum Qualifications: Equivalencies not found for this position Preferred Qualifications: Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, at least half-time (6 hours). Can work a minimum of 10-20 hours a week. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to follow instructions and adhere to protocols and procedures. Attention to detail. Works as a team member with staff and/or other student employees on various projects. Willing to perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. Work Study students. Interest in database systems, spreadsheets and data analysis. Proficiency in at least one data analysis programming language (e.g., R, Python, SAS, SQL, VBA) through coursework, projects, or work experience. Proven experience with data input, validation, and error correction processes. Applied knowledge of qualitative and/or quantitative research procedures. Prior experience or formal training in ArcGIS or ArcPro is preferred. Experience with statistical data analysis, data processing, and trend analysis.
