About the Role The Design Engineer III participates in controls engineering for projects in the material handling industry and others. The role’s primary focus is Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming and programming of other controllers, safety devices, etc. If you are passionate about controls & automation, self‑motivated, and enjoy collaborative environments, this position is for you. This position reports to the Director of Controls Engineering.
In this role, you will…
Collaborate with project teams on creating and implementing PLC and other device programs
Develop tools, process improvements, standards, etc.
Train and guide other engineers on programming
Develop and complete accurate programs utilizing customer documentation, prior experience, and verbal guidance with minimal oversight
Create program files for system controller and other devices:
PLC programming in Studio 5000
Learn other PLC software as needed
Programming primarily in ladder logic with exposure to structured text, function block, etc.
Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) configuration and parameter settings
Other device programming/configuration such as: ASi gateways, Managed Ethernet switches, remote I/O modules, etc.
Support, guide, and lead bench testing of system programs
Support, guide, and lead commissioning and testing of system programs. Aid during troubleshooting efforts and functionality changes
Develop knowledge of controller/device capabilities, hardware requirements, system architecture, etc.
Specify material, time, and other requirements for program development and deployment
Travel up to 20% annually
Requirements We are excited about you because you have:
A bachelor’s degree in engineering.
6 years or more of relevant engineering experience.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Proficiency with Studio 5000 or related software.
