What You’ll Do This position requires proficiency in the design and development of fabricated metal components and assemblies for hydraulic reservoir products. The Design Engineer - Tanks will be responsible for creating and maintaining detailed 3D models, drawings, and product assemblies, while managing engineering changes and revision control throughout the product lifecycle.
This role will collaborate closely with manufacturing personnel to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the engineer will provide support for production equipment programming as needed, including CNC laser cutting operations and a plasma table. The Design Engineer is also responsible for developing and maintaining accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering documentation, and other technical records required to support similar products and manufacturing operations.
Design and Modeling: Create 3D models and 2D detailed drawings for product components and assemblies, ensuring accuracy and alignment with design specifications.
In-House Manufacturing Coordination: Coordinate and oversee in-house metal fabrication projects, work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure smooth execution.
Bill of Materials (BOM): Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and product structures within the ERP system, ensuring comprehensive data management.
Production Support: Collaborate with the production team to provide support on engineering changes, modifications, and the development of clear work instructions.
Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with both engineering and sales teams to develop detailed support documentation, ensuring that technical documentation is accurate and clear.
Engineering Documentation: Maintain and manage engineering release documentation, including Engineering Release Notices (ERNs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), for components and assemblies.
Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors to request and evaluate RFQs (Requests for Quotations) for materials and parts used within the assemblies.
First Article Inspections: Assist the receiving department with conducting first article inspections of raw components to verify quality and adherence to design specifications.
Project Management: Organize and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines, ensuring timely delivery of components, assemblies, and documentation.
Additional Duties: Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned, ensuring flexibility and support across various functions.
Your Experiences & Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME), Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), Design Engineering Technology (DET), or a related technical discipline; equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will also be considered.
Preferred 2-3 years of experience in mechanical design, detailing, drafting, and engineering documentation.
Proficient in 3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing development using software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD.
Working knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including welding, cutting, forming, and assembly techniques.
Basic understanding of hydraulic systems and their application preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Experience utilizing ERP systems to create and maintain product structures, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and engineering data.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and a willingness to contribute to a broad range of technical and continuous improvement projects.
Highly detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Self-motivated with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and continuous learning.
